I was wondering how many of you hunters out there take some sort or reading material with you to the stand?
I usually take a hunting related magazine with me in my backpack to the woods so that I can sometimes sit all day without going crazy.

Yeah sometimes I take a book or magazine with me. Just depends on ow long I am going to be able to stay out that day.
I dont take a book, but I always have a small handheld Tetris game in my pack. I took it apart and cut the speaker wires. It helps me stay on stand alot longer.![]()
Sometimes Yahtzee..........If I'm in the groundblind. In a tree I enjoy the peace and scenery....
If I plan on sitting awhile I will take an issue of "PA Game News" because they are small and I can slip it right in to my pocket very quietly if I see or hear something. I'm thinking of adding yahtzee to my all day sit anti boredom arsenal this year just to mix it up.
I picked up a yatzee game just for this purpose, and it sits in my bag. For whatever reason, I can't seem to bring myself to take it out. I find myself too busy looking around and watching the woods.
The only time I ever used it was last year in MO on a guided hunt. I shot a deer early in the morning and drug it to the field. After a short nap, I decided to play yatzee. other then that, it's just been sitting in the pack.
I usually keep a book or handheld game (if I can sneak one away from the kids) in my backpack for the long days. But normally I enjoy the quiet time by myself watching the wildlife other than deer.

Ask Sureshot about that, lol.
Personally, I normally don't take anything, but I will sometimes carry a miniature Bible. My eyes are so bad now that I need glasses to read it though.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because you were there.
The easiest thing I think that I do is download games to my cell phone. That way I remember to bring my phone with me (on vibrate of course) and I can beef up my poker skills while hunting! I think a book or mag would make me move too much or make too much noise.
I usually take a North American Whitetail, Bowhunter or Deer and Deer Hunting magazine with me just in case the activity is low. I am spotty with it though. I only really bring it out of my pack occassionally, typically in the early season. The articles get me pumped up and motivated to stay in the tree. Plus, there are some helpful tips that make me think and try and stay sharp mentally in the tree.

Welcome to my world Chris. I can't even take my video camera without taking my reading glasses too.
I've never taken any kind of reading material to the stand with me. I prefer to just take it all in and enjoy the solitude along with the peacefulness of the hunt. That is until the action gets underway. Heck, I can't see focusing my attention on anything besides what's going on around me. I'm too concerned I'll miss something.
Nothing to read I just bring along my DELL DJ, loaded with over 1500 songs ,,, I use a single ear plug and I also bring along my book of word search and Im set to go ..![]()

I don't usually bring anything but snacks. If I'm out there too long and get tempted to read or anything else, i'll take a short 10/15 min walk around or back to the camp for break.
