    Unhappy Down...hopefully not out!

Just venting here guys...cause I am a competitive idiot!

In the competitive nature of men's softball, I was playing in a playoff game Tuesday night, trying to get a double, slid into 2nd base head/hands first, and dislocated my shoulder! OUCH! Out of all my years of high school and college athletics, I never hurt myself as bad as I did this past Tuesday night!

The funny things is...even though my arm was locked out of place, and I was in terrible pain, the first thought that went through my head wasn't I am gonna miss work tomorrow, my girlfriend is gonna kill me, was I safe or out, I am gonna miss the championship series...it was ARCHERY SEASON IS A MONTH AWAY AND I MIGHT MISS IT!

3 days removed from my injury, I still am seriously concerned with not being able to pull my bow back and hunt in 4 weeks!!

Any advice guys?? ****...lie to me if you have to...just give me some mental comfort! haha
    Happy Hunting

Go to doctor.................Don't shoot until he releases you. There will be more seasons..........Heal first Hunt second.

Good news is your still alive and get to hunt next year at least.

Heck a month is a pretty good amount of time to heal. Even if you miss some of the season I doubt you will miss all of it. Just take care of it and maybe crank down the pounds on your bow when you try to shoot again.

I agree take it easy and in a month you should be good to go...you may need to drop a few lbs on the bow but no big deal.

Well i hope you'll be able to pull it back. I broke my throwing and shooting hand thumb a few years back while playing quarterback in practice. Like you said, my first thought wasnt that i'd just lost my qb job that i'd worked very hard to get, it was more like will i be good to go on Oct 1. I remember getting it off on Sept 30. I pleaded with the doc to go ahead and cut the cast off a few days before opening weekend.
I figure God only gave me so many sunrises, I might as well not miss one.

Man am I glad I stick to golf, I took a beating yesterday and lost 10 bucks, but at least there was no permenant injury. It's funny how we as men forget our age when we get competitive.

    Heal quickly bud. God Bless.
I'll try to extend the grace to you that God has already extended to me.

As long as you didn't tear anything you should be good to go for at least part of bow season if not all of it. Have it checked out to be sure though.

Man i heer ya. When i was a junior back in High School I tore me knee up in foot ball. SO i rehabbed it and tore it up even worse in march. Dock says Im gunna do surgery on the 13th. I laughed and said dad camo my croutches turkey season is on the 15th. My doc gave me a weird look. But hey My buddy got his first bird that mourning I tryed to run to it like a idoit and it sweeled back up like the size of a bolwingball. Go back to the dock. I tore some more stuff running on it. Went back in cleaned it up and couldnt play football my senior year. I love turkey hunting nothing else like in the world. But I hopefully have 50 more seasons of that but only one senior year to play ball. Ill pray for ya and hope it heals up
GOD, family, hunting, work. Man im glad i work for my self.

You should be alright I think. I dislocated my shoulder during hockey game and popped it back into place the next shift. I was fine after about 1-2 weeks, If I remember correctly. I know it didnt take me very long.

guys...thanks for all the comforting comments! Quick update...it was exactly a week yesterday and the healing process is coming along quite well. Fortunately, the xrays showed no breaks or fractures in the bones. Hopefully the soreness is from the muscle and initial trauma. On Monday, I was finally able to reach over and shift gears in my truck. Still today, certain motions are sore and I don't sleep real well at night...but all n all...I am much better.

I spent the entire labor day weekend scouting to help get my mind off of things and get some adrenaline back to help the healing process. Saw a few shooters too.

Wish me continued good luck as I wish each of you good luck this season!

I know there are plenty of people that are against cross bows, but a few years ago i had a major car accident and had to undergo numerous surgeries on my left arm and shoulder. It happened just short of deer season and had my final surgery approx. 3 weeks before opening day. I was also worried about being able to hunt so I spoke with my doctor and had him fill out a form to be able to hunt with a crossbow. He actually filled the form out for a lifetime permit thinking that it could be possible that i may not gain enough strength to hold up my bow, but i only had to use it for about the first month. I bought me a cheaper cross bow that was used and used it until i could pull back my bow. By early November i was hunting with my bow part time when my shoulder felt good enough and by late november i was hunting with my bow full time. Remember, where there is a will there is a way. I hope you get better before season.

Hope you heal quick, but man I didn't need to hear that. I have the WI state tourny coming up this weekend (Sept 8 & 9) and Nationals tourny the end of Sept. I too am just trying to get through another season with no major injuries. About 3 years ago I broke my collar bone the 1st weekend in August in an ATV accident. It took me until November to feel comfortable and safe pulling my bow. After about the 1st month I would periodically try and draw my bow to see if my rehab was helping or not. I sure do feel for you. Take it easy and keep healing until you know for sure that you can draw and hold safely. Good luck.
