Well the first mature doe that walks in on me is going in the freezer, I need some meat lol...as far as a buck in concerned that will just depend on the circumstance...you know sometimes to can just tell a buck is the one you want to take even if he is not a monster.

A shooter blacktail deer to me is a mature deer, doe or buck.
Around here we have a lot of genetic 2x2's, so as long as they are 3 1/2 or older, they are keepers.
If I see anything better however, I will try to hold out for that particular buck.
We've been trying to take as many mature 2x2's in resent years that we can, hoping to improve the genetic pool in our area, and it does seem to be working to some extent. We are now seeing blacktail with some brow-tines, at least and the odd 3x3, 4x4 and up

Any deer that comes within range this year. Buck or doe. I'm thirsty for blood.

In Michigan I'd like to hold out for a 3 year old buck or older. Not too concerned about score, but a 3 year old where I hunt should be around 130. In Iowa I'm not sure. I would like to take a buck larger than anything I've shot around home, so I'm looking for at least a 140.

I'll also shoot 2 or 3 does for the freezer.

Well, i've never killed a buck with a bow, so i wont be incredibly picky. But it really just depends on circumstances for whether i'll shoot a young buck or not. I've actually passed on a bunch of young legal bucks because they werent what i wanted.
I figure God only gave me so many sunrises, I might as well not miss one.

I let you know when it happens. It will depend alot on the whitetail activity in our area. If we have some decent bucks move in I'll be holding out.

I hate to be specific though, I've had the moment dictate what a shooter was more than once. LOL

    Good luck all
I'll try to extend the grace to you that God has already extended to me.

On my home farm any buck is a shooter but im gonna pass on spikes and forkers.
On my buddy jakes farm, the deer has to be 125 inches or better to shoot.
At the 450, the buck has to be outside the ears and atleast look to be a 3 1/2 year old.
At the 80, the buck has to have 8 points and atleast be a 2 1/2 year old.

And anywhere I go a mature doe is a dead doe

For bow, really have not decided yet. Looking at the new laws here where 3 does a day are allowed on through ALL our seasons, I know the herd is going to be wiped out almost to total eradication.

Thinking seriously that I may go on and whack a doe or two with the bow, I know if I dont they will only end up getting whacked come gun season by the shooters across the river from us who hold the brown its down mentality. Far as bucks go, has not really been any around to say, typically I would try to hold off for a 3.5 year old or better, but am thinking I may shoot the first non yearling or button buck I have an opportunity on since at this point there really has not been any bucks around.

Afraid the only way for the deer here to ever recover beyond the poor management choices that have been implemented is going to be for the deer to become almost non existant here to the point some of the many who are flooding this area give it up. Sad reality as I see it.

im goimg to shoot the first doe for the freezer and than im hopeing to get a nice buck we've seen an 8 a couple of fours and a 5 point on the camras, but around here any deer that has three points on one side is a shooter and as close that our lease is to the other leases is hard to let them get to be realy big souse if you let them walk the other people on the other leases wont, hoping when the rut comes in we might get a good drifter come by.
