    Default Bowhunter's Pick a spot 1 with scenarios

    I like to make this game a little more interesting. Not only do you have to pick a spot but you have to make the decision whether or not you would even take the shot. I have been keeping some pics I've seen to do this with so bear with me there will probably be 10 or more of these pick a spot games.................Enjoy




    On your way into your stand this bruiser stands up at 28 yards. You try to steady yourself as the crosswind is blowing about 15 mph.....................What do you do?

    That deer is not quite broadside, very slight too angle. A 15 mph crosswind is a pretty good wind....., but at that distance my bow shoots pretty flat, don't think there would be but a few inches of wind drift, shoot in crosswinds at my 3d all the time and no issues at 30-35 yards keeping groups inside the vitals. Depending on the direction of the wind I am going somewhere between the next to the bottom green and blue.

    I would just stand there stock still and let his confusion have him make a mistake. Again the deer is looking at you. Shoot and he is in the next county going night time. First off, you are not going to get the draw on him. You have a better chance of the deer disregarding you and dropping his guard. His curiosity may even have him come closer to see just what you are. He may stomp to get you to move. Be mime strong. I killed a couple of old doe the very same way. Both made the mistake of forgetting about me and turning broadside walking away.

    And yes before you shoot, those little strands of wheat and weeds will break your heart.

    Ditto... I've never been successful doing this, but you are never going to get drawn on a deer looking at you; therefore, I'm waiting til he turns to take off. Once that head turns, draw quickly... Maybe he'll still be there and will give a good angle.
    I figure God only gave me so many sunrises, I might as well not miss one.

    I would not shoot. This deer is nervous and ready to bound at any moment. He is also quartering to you making it harder to punch him perfectly. Even at 28 yards, this deer can/will jump your string no matter how fast your setup, especially when on the alert!!!

    If I knew the distance to be 28 yards and I got to full draw (I would sure try), the bottom green circle should take care of him dropping down to load the leg muscles and allow leeway for any wind deflection. The few grass strands are of little significance and my arrow should travel this distance in about 1/4 second giving him very little time to react. His look is more one of curiosity than panic.

    Green 3 if I could draw, but no way in that scenario.

    You tend to say that often. Want another hunting buddy? If you can pass on that I need to hunt where you do; nobody seems to get it around here.

    ...oh yea I'd take the shot if I could draw without it running away, aiming low of course. The wind won't make the arrow drift more than a couple inches.

    I'm on the ground...no cover...if i'm going to my stand, I'm wearing a backpack. I hate the deers body language. I would be at full draw, but probably not shooting unless something favorable happened.
