    Default The bow or broadheads

I was just curious as to what you guys think..

I'm shooting a Fred Bear TRX 300-Realtree..Bow shoots great and all.

When I shoot field points, G5 Montec 3-blades 100gr or Muzzy4-blade 100gr, they all require different sight adjustments.

Is this just so typical of using the 2 or how ever many different manufactured fixed broadheads?
I'm using the same XT Hunter 5575 arrows that I've always used.

Or is this possibly something going on with the bow?

Not the bow, broadheads do that.

    What to do...

    1. Sight it in with the broadheads you will use.
    2. Find a broadhead that shoots the same (or darn near close) as your field tips.

I have a TRX and I use a Rocky Mountain Gator XP - 2 blade expandable. Same idea as the Rage 2-blade. I can't tell a difference between the broadhead and my field points.

Mine did the same thing so I switch to Rage 2's and no longer have that problem.

The fixed blades I've shot I've had to move my sights to get them to hit dead on.

Expandalbes for the most part I've not really had to move them.

I was having issues with my G5 Montecs too...so i switched to the rage 2 blades, and honestly, i have never shot another broadhead that flys as much like a field point. Awesome...

If your bow is paper tuned, make sure that you spin test your broadheads too. Every Montec G-5 I have ever used on crossbow or compound, shoot to same point of impact as my field points w/o fail. Can't myself, speak for Muzzy's but they have a longstanding good reputation. As far as open on impact broadheads, I can speak and I wouldn't give you a $1 for a bucket full of em, rage included. Find what shoots, stick with it and stay away from fads.

That's weird, because the Montec G5's are one of the truest broadheads I have ever shot.
Are you sure your bow is all tuned properly for shooting your regular field (target) tips? Have you ever paper tuned your bow?

See I had the exact opposite experience with my G5’s. Those things fly great for me! I don’t have to change a thing when going from field points to my broad heads.

Actually the first deer that I shot with the G5 passed clean through and buried into the ground about 6” and unfortunately hit a rock. The tip was mushroomed completely over, basically junk. I thought about switching tips because $12.00 a pop is a tough pill to swallow if they only last one shot. However, after trying some other tips I determined that taking confidence into the field is priceless. Sorry for the tangent.

As far as getting fixed blade heads to fly true I would recommend paper tuning (edit: I see patriotoutlaw & buckee beat me to it) and also trying to line the fletching up with the blades (obviously, this only holes true for 3-blade heads). Otherwise as others have mentioned try mechanicals.

My wife and I both shoot 100 grain G5 Montecs and have no trouble. Mine's a Mathews and her's a Parker. I just bought 4 new 3 packs of Montecs for $80.00 and the guy threw in 3 practice tips. He couldn't get them to shoot either. And I feel bad for not helping him tune his bow.

During the off season try some different bow tuning methods (mainly broadhead tuning) to try to get your broadheads to shoot the same as your field points. If your bow is tuned properly and you are using properly spined arrows according to your arrow length and poundage, your broadheads should shoot good. If that doesn't work then just sight them in.

Sure, expanables may fly nice and be less of a pain, but nothing compares to the toughness and bone shattering power of a fixed blade.

what some guys dont know is that a broadhead only flies as good as how well the arrow is prepared.

the ends of the arrow MUST be cut square. sometimes a shop can do this for you, sometimes they cant. i could never seem to get the saw to cut the arrows perfect. but once i ran them through a G5 (ASD)arrow squaring device, they were always perfectly square.

square arrow shafts = square inserts = square broadheads.

guess i need to do a video to show how i square the ends of my arrows.

Excuses are not accepted from those that do not prepare.
