Clothing help?

Glad your coming north. Layers are key. Don't skimp on quality clothing. We already have a 1/2 foot of snow on the ground. When I go out for the day I wear thermal underwear(head to toe), a good wind protection layer, warm parka and my white fleece overalls. The first thing that will get cold are your feet or your hands. Wear something warm. In fact I would pack some heat packs with me. Nothing worse than making a shivering shot. Good luck...hope that monster whitetail keeps you in mind.

Like bushman said when hunting in Canada more is better and do the layer thing. FOr me the critical things are wool long underwear(still warm even when you sweat), lots of layers, and a good overcoat and pants. Next, hat...something very warm that will block the wind. For your hands i am not a glove fan in real cold weather. I use leather mitts, wits woll ones inside that are nice and thick, but loose so if i need to i can quickly just kind of let them fall off my hands. For feet get teh warmest boots you have, and if they are not really warm get some boot insulators like the ones made by arctic shield(love those things). Nothing worse than cold feet. Good luck!

where are you going exactly in Sask-if you are going to be stand hunting I'd jusy get some of those arctic Shield booties to go over your regular hunting boots. As far as cold weather gear Arctic Shield or Raven Wear are probably the best I've seen. Myself I'm usually on the go so I just layer with lots of wool so I can go quieter. Most of us here wear thick raw wool socks on our feet with a rubber overshoes (squaw moccasins) they are awesome to hunt in-light as slippers but very warm. If your in the Meadow Lake area that's about only place where you will be able to buy them lots of guys I've guided purchased some.

Everybody pretty much has summed it up. Nushman and Superguide both live in my area, it can get cold. I too like wool, lots of it. I'll just reinforce two things, layers, and BIG MITTS and BOOTS, once your hands or feet get cold you're buggered and being from Alabama I have to guess you're not accustomed to -30 like we are. It's still cold for us so it will be for you, keep your hands and feet warm or you'll be miserable.

I would suggest getting some warmer boots! Mine are 1000 gram Lacrosse's and I still have to wear lots of socks and foot warmer packs or I freeze. I am in Maine, and it gets pretty cold, but it is a deep freeze up north! I would imagine it might be a little worse for you since you aren't use to such cold temps. Bring LOTS of those throw away warmers!

Buy a whole whack of those warmers that Cabelas offers...and an extra large battery for your camera... and keep your spare close to your body so it doesn't freeze up...as well as the layers, get some polypropelene underwear so that it can wick away the moisture so you don't sweat and then have the fast freeze...good luck

Be sure to try some boots on with the thicker wool socks and such.
If you're buying new...get them a size or two larger than you'd normally wear. If the boot fits too tight, you're cutting off circulation and your feet will get cold real quick.
