Default Question for you Guys up North

Do you guys find your mass amounts of sheds on private land or is there a bunch of public up there, if so do you guys hunt it alot?

There is a lot of public (Crown) land in Saskatchewan. I find antlers both on public and private land. I hunt both public and private land as well. The private land up here isn't like the private land you are used to down in most of the United States. Trespass fees are prohibited in Saskatchewan, so most of the private land is accessable to anyone if they take the trouble to talk to the landowners.

The biggest problem with looking for antlers on public ground (if you are someone like me that enjoys walking) is that snowmobiles and quads go everywhere, even though in most Crown-owned pastures they are supposed to be restricted to designated roads and trails. Even the private land I was on this year had snowmobile tracks (and when the snow melted, quad tracks) even though the landowner strictly forbids quads or snowmobiles. I guess there are trespassers anywhere antlers have been shed in North America, and Saskatchewan is no exception.

I am in the south of sask and most is private land I hunt on, most ranchers are more than glad to let you go for a walk,[some do not like quads, and that is were I head most]there are also community pastures that the goverment own and are free access to everyone, only problem there is so many that head in there with quads and drive all over, this ticks the pasture managers off and they get alot of sheds, but on years with no snow and late droppign like this yearmost of the sheds are in the bush were quads cannot get so they can drive were they want and I will walk and collect 2 times more than they do!Also there are few shed hunters in the south couse the deer do not herd up like the colder areas with more snow up north,I only know of 2 other guys who shed hunt in my area and both of them use quads, makes it great for me!![I prob put on 100-150 miles on foot a spring and get about 100 sheds a year average, not easy but keeps me in shape!!]

i wish we could find sheds like that, the deer are here by the hundreds, but just dont find the sheds. I think its cause of the rodents.
