    Default rock question

    I just got back from canada on sunday night i was up there for 4 days doing some whitefishing in Shining Tree ON, anyways my question is as we were driving along highway 69 i nocited for proably more then 100 miles little rock piles on top of the large rocks along the highway they were defently placed there by somebody and i was just wondering if by chance anybody knew what the point is for those rock huts?? some had flags placed on them as well

    Rocks are sometimes used along highways to prevent erosion of soil. Without seeing exactly what it is your talking about I can't say for sure thoe.

    They are probably inukashuk...which is a traditional inuit means of marking areas they have passed through.
    A lot of people grabbed on the idea after a commercial that ran up here a few years ago where an innu gentlemen described when asked 'why?'..."so they know we were here."
    Traditionally, it is believed they were used on the tundra as hiding points when hunting caribou, but they are also somewhat similar in shape to a man, thus making the caribou less wary of man's form.
    Now-a-days, people build them when they travel through an area they have never seen before.

    Diff ones mark diff things.Such as :shelter,food cache,hunting,friends,etc... Search it on the web.You will prob. find it interesting.

    I got that question from almost every group i guided. The other guys nailed it, and i will add that they are all made by groups of tourists returning home after they found out what they are lol
