Default What food plot seed to use?

I am getting ready to plant food plots for the first time. I have decided to use Tecomate LabLab Plus and something else. But I cant decide. I would like the other to be for turkey and deer. The other options so far are Tecomate Bucks and Bossed and Tecomate Alfa-feast.

Anyone else have any ideas or opinions on other brand name seeds and what works good.

All I will use is hamann farms seed. I love the treefoil plots that I planted last year, never had such great success with any other plot before and have been planting for 7 years. I am one happy hunter!

I use the treefoil rack grower and also plant the winter blend. Also cant go wrong with putting out some power mix for a mineral site. I would not recommend there products without first hand experience. I almost gave up on food plots until I tried there products, but you have to still prep the site properly and do a soil sample to find out your fertilizer and if you need to lime or not.

i have to agree with antlers21 also. Last spring I harvested my largest Turkey right on my Hamann Farms food plot---the Fall mix. The clover and trefoil really keep the turkeys close. It also attracts lots of insects and the hens kept their poults on it all summer. This fall I harvest my largest buck off a different property also planted with Hamann Farms. Within a year and half of planting my first HF plot I harvest my biggest buck and biggest gobbler. You bet I will also continue using their seed.

Also agree with antlers21---doesn't matter what you plant if you don't do the proper prep work you will disappointed.

    good luck

kracey--when are you planning on planting this plot?

You really can't go wrong with either one. I really like the fall blend but have had success with both. The chicory in the fall blend does really well the following summer and the brassicas are a strong draw late summer.

best of luck---you might PM oneida man and let him know what your plans are and let him guide you in your decision.

Im looking at the Trefoil Trophy Rack Fall Deer Blend . My question is the food plots are going in early spring. Would it be ok to plant the fall blend then with the other plot or not. I want both plots to be planted at the same time to save on cost.

Survival of spring-planted food plots are greatly dependant on rainfall. This is why most companies suggest a fall planting. Under good conditions with good rainfall, a spring planting will be fine.

kracey--INBowhunter is correct. Spring plantings of perennials stand a risk of not surviving the summer--but this all depends on your location--due to length of summer and annual rainfall totals during the summer months. Go to the website and e-mail Martin directly and he can tell you what you need to do based on your location.

In Oklahoma I have not had any luck planting perennials in the spring. Our summers are too hot and dry for the young plants to survive--that is why I always start my perennial plots in the fall. Another reason is it gives me time to make the plot completely weed free by discing and spraying throughout the summer--this really pays dividends in the future as weed control is much better.

    good luck
