    Default Hunting a waterhole

I found a water hole WAYYY back on some public ground that has a HUGE rub on it, tracks all around the edge. What would be a good way to hunt it? I know deer will walk with the wind at their back, which side of the hole would you set a stand? There is a field to the NW, most of the timber in there is pretty thick to.

I hunted an area like that last year and took a spike near there. The best way I can describe it is this, the waterhole was near river, but, you can't get down to the river, clifflike dropoff, so the waterhole is backed up near the edge of that dropoff, I was sitting to where the river was at my back which put the waterhole to my left. Hope this helps, not sure about compass directions or lat. or long. Probably would just depend which way the deer move on that property.

If they are feeding in the field, I would say somewhere on the field side of the watering hole. So much water with the winding river around here, the deer dont have to go too far to find it.

This sounds like it's pretty close to a bedding area, if it is...I would get right on top of it. Try to set up so the prevailing wind is in your favor, but they could come from any direction especially if it's in cover. I have a stand near one that is buried in some pretty nasty stuff as well. It's a red hot stand, especially in the rut. With those bucks chasing does all day, they have to get a drink sometime.
