    Default Big Buck, Please Help!

Ok guys heres my deal! I have spotted a really nice shooter buck! I sit in a blind on east side of the field! he shows of on the other side( west side of the field) about 400-500 yards out! My prob is i wanna set my blind up over there! PROBLEM!!in order to get to i would have to walk right through the field to get there! The land to the south and to the west is the edge of my land! I can not get to a blind over there unless i walk through the field!!! The buck is working from north to south in the morning and from south to north in the evening! How should i enter this field and when? Im think about getting to the blind by 500% make sure im scent free! Put some estrous scent on me! and Try to make it there about 1 and 1/2 hours before day light! What do you think? Any other ideas?

What kind of field is it? I think getting to the blind 30 minutes before light is early enough, but if deer are in the field at that time you will need to adjust. Don't let walking through the field kill your decision...it is done all the time.

I'd refrain from putting estrous scent on your body. Make sure all your clothes are scent free, take a shower in antibacterial hunting soap, use antibacterial hunting deoderant, and spray down with Scent Killer or similar product, and wear clean rubber boots.

    Good luck.

I was picturing a cut cornfield...go figure, I'm from the midwest. Overgrown changes things. I guess it depends on how overgrown it is. It can't be to the point of small trees or you would not have seen him that far away. If it's open enough to walk through, do it. If he is bedding in there he should be in his feeding area when you go through in the morning. Only go in when you are prepared to sit all day so you don't bump him with a walk out during mid-day. Take food, drink, and tp. Be sure to play the wind right. If the wind is blowing from the field to your present blind site, then stay put....just start banging those antlers when the pre-rut heats up in your area.

Are you allowed to do any "habitat manipulation" in this field? i.e. mowing? If so, it's too late for this year but if it's ok with the landowner, next year get in there and cut a trail to the other side so you can sneak over there quietly. While you're at it cut a few in different directions, they will turn into deer travel corridors.

Hey Ryan, Try walking the wood's edge on the OPPOSITE side of where he comes out. Play the wind, you want it in your face, or blowing from the direction you expect the deer to come from.

You said he is coming from the North, heading south, in the morning, so try walking the south side of the field, making sure you have a North wind (Rember, this is in the morning) or a wind IN your face. I say try to get there around 3 in the morning. I know that is really, really early, but that will give any deer that spooked the chance to get back in the field and calm down before daylight.

Try not to use any lights, if possible. Clean clothes, rubber boots, scent killer, all a must. This buck did not get old by being stupid. Don't put estrous on yourself, that buck will be trying to mate with you, not a good situation!!! (IMO )

If he is coming out every day across this field, I wouldn't even use estrous I don't think.

If he is as predictable as you say he is, you should have this deer by the end of the week!! Good luck buddy!! Make sure that ML fires correctly!!!!!

I'm assuming it's the one buck from your video clips... looking at that overgrown field I think I would rather get out there early in the afternoon and try to take him in the evening as opposed to wandering through there in the darkness of morning... if he is as patternable as you say then the first couple times out I would not try anything as far as estrus goes... no reason for anything to be different for him... just be as scent free as possible and get over there where you can get a good shot at him...

Good luck!! Can't wait to see the pics of you and him!!

Sounds like an afternoon hunt. If you are bound and determined to hunt it in the morning, would stick to the edge of the woods if there are any.

Either that or like gator suggested you might crawl. Just dont think I could do that here right now, too warm and the snakes are still out.

I guess Gary and I think alike. I totally agree with Gary's thoughts Ryan. If you don't succeed the 1st time you can use the cover of darkness to slip out too.

I'd go to where he's been in the evening and hunt then, I wouldn't want to risk bumping everyhting out of there in the a.m.
