    Default And tips..hunting open areas...

Well I bought a double bull blind and just wondering how deer react to it out in open areas. there are some areas i can break up the outline of the blind, but I have a lot more areas where there isn't anything to help break up the outline. Just wondering if there is anybody with some tips. I've had good success stalking with a gun, but with a bow and arrow its tough.

You know, I've never really liked the idea of a portable blind in open country. I always thought they stuck out like a sore thumb. I've had good luck just using the type of camo designed for open country and staying real still. I've also seen others use a ghillie suit effectively. For a bow, the blind might be the only option, but it may need to stay in place for a while before the deer settle down and come close to it.

My luck around here in Iowa with pop up blinds for deer has really been poor. For turkeys it is great though. What we have ended up doing is building wooden box blinds on the ground and put them out in August and the deer get used to them after awhile then when you go and sit in them it doesn't bother them after awhile.

I hollowed out one of those big round bales of hay and it worked great! Deer are used to seeing them.

This is what I use every year, same spot, same hole in the fence, and last year we took 5 deer out of it (3 bucks and 2 does)

Not really many open areas here, but old overgrown fencerows if you can find them make great spots to setup ground blinds.

I gotta go with texan here, Ive never been comfortable setting a blind in the wide open.I dont know if bothers the deer or not, but my confidence goes way down sitting in one.I prefer a set up like Buckee posted using the natural cover available, or just sitting real still in the open like Texan said.I get within bowrange of deer and kill a few every year without a blind in the open.Me sitting there creates a lot less noticable outline than a 5X5 blind sitting in the same spot

If there isn't much to help cover the blind up with, then I'd say just try your best to blend it in as possible. I don't go into wide open areas with blinds. I always keep them on the edge of openings, if that is where I am using them.
