Will Deer Eat Sweet Feed Horse Feed?

Don't use the junk they sell for deer corn, from what I have read it is very poor quality they couldn't sell any other way, go to a feed store and buy what is fed livestock. As far as sweetfeed goes, yes the deer will fight over it, bears come to it and even turkeys will eat it. The club I was in when I lived in VA winter fed the deer and mixed the sweetfeed with corn.

You can make your own sweet feed cheaper by buying regular shelled corn and mixing it with molasses. the deer will literally fight over the mix.

OOOOOH YAAAAAA, they like sweet feed.....and Archer is right, you'll want to make your own........they eat the stuff up so fast, that the store bought stuff is gonna break ya..........I like making mine with screenings from the elevator as my main food source. [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img]

Deer will eat sweet feed like horse a mule feed. But don't put it in a feeder that uses a timer and spinner to throw the feed out. Horse and mule is sweetened with mollasses, when the temp warms up, the feed will get real sticky and gum up your timer and spinner.

Use a trough feeder instead it would works alot better.

bgcorn, we make our own mix with our corn and add 38% protein dairy pellets mollasses 2to1 mineral, for an 18 % mix. oh ya and i have to tell ya right before it gets real cold put that stuff out and the deer will eat that stuff up all u hve to do is go eny meny miny mo.. me and my dad were hunting one day and our deer feeder was out and we are rednecks we keep feed in our truck for our horses so we just sprinkled some of it on the ground talk about deer it looked like the mall on the day after thanksgiving

I used to go to the feed store & buy bags of hog mineral. They were cheap & deer loved it. Would put it out after deer season when the weather got bad, the deer just tore it up. I haven't put any out for several years now, it used to be legal to do this but now it is illegal( I think the law is still in affect anyway)because of CWD.

I tried using Sweet Horse Feed, to feed the Deer, but they would not touch it at all. I guess the odor of it spooked them or something. I mixed some shelled corn with it and the Deer just picked out the corn and left the Horse Feed. We have lots of Holly Trees, on our property and the Deer love holly berries.

If your looking for some cheap sweet feed. "Sam's Club" has 12% for $5.28, 50lbs.

I was told by a boilogist and game warden never to feed them sweet feed. It can make them sick.

Go ahead and doctor up some corn with whatever. That's what I do. I have never seen sweet feed for horses and do not know what it is. If it has crushed bone for calcium be careful not to spread CWD. I pay $5.00 for 100 pounds of whole corn from the feed store and sometimes I spice it up with something sweet. It's just plain cheaper.

They will eat it. Remember reading something about mad cow or cwd like Ranger Clay said above. Would ask your feed store.
