How do you get up the tree?

I build my own ladders, use climbing stix and tree steps all 3. Take your pick. The home-built ladder is the easiest to climb (but heavy to move). The stick is pretty easy to climb, pretty easy to set up and a pain to carry, too. Treesteps are easy to cary fair to climb and sometimes a real pain to install.........as well as illegal in some places if it ain't your tree you're running them in to. My "comfortable minimum" height is about 18'........usually, I'm at 20'-22' and 25' or a little more is, sometimes, just right............all depends on the situation. i use the screw in tree steps. i always ask the landowner if its ok to use them and i always take them out after the season .
they can be a pain to put in but i made a spike punch to make a small hole to help them get started in.
once in the tree these are the most secure steps of all , provided that you make sure that they are in the tree and not just the bark or in dead wood.

I use the climbing stixs.But just this year I started making some of my own ladders. They are heavier but they work really good.

I use steps for the most part.A couple stands have homemade ladders on them but they need a lotta maintainence.For safety id go with the climbing sticks, if you move around a lot or walk a long ways into your stands like i do steps are hard to beat, like Tony said make sure their into wood and not just bark.And check your local laws and with the landowner before you use them.

I use screw in steps. in my area, if you use a ladder step, people will steal them. you can hide a screw in easier.

I use screw in steps for my hang on stands, but sometimes they can be a booger to get in that hard oak tree. But once they are in they are very stable. Just remember always wear a harness. A hunter lost his life after falling 20 feet while installing a hang on this year. His wife was below him and saw it all. What a tragedy that could have been prevented.
