Question for buckee or NHbowhunter?

I would say so, but you can bet there will be folks who disagree with me ...LOL
Although it's not an exact science and I am no scientist, Larger deer do, for the most part, produce larger droppings and when I see one of those toilet-paper-roll sized clumps, I know there is a nice buck in the area.

I have to agree with buckee to a certain point. I don't think there is any scientific proof of this...but it makes sense. If you see large rubs...more than likey its a large buck. If you see large tracks...its most likey a large deer. In my experience...it seems larger droppings and clumping comes from the older deer (older deer)...does not mean larger racked bucks! I think all you can do is either track it and try to catch up with it or do alot of scouting to try and see it for yourself. [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img]

No track,dropping, hair on fence, rub or scrape is going to tell you the exact size of a deers rack ....LOL
Rubs do give you a fair idea of it's size, just from the size of the tree he decides to tackle, however large bucks take on small shrubs as well, so you can't always tell from seeing a few rubs.
Some rubs (known as community rubs) will be made by a larger buck, but visited and re-rubbed by much smaller bucks. So you can be fooled there too if you see a small buck visiting a rub, that is on a big tree into thinking the smaller buck made it.

I do believe that big deer leave big tracks, big droppings and even big rubs. I do not believe, at least I can't tell, if it was made by a buck a doe. There are some pretty big does out there and everything is proportionate. I have had others tell me that when you see clumped droppings it is made by a doe, sorry to ruffle feathers, but if a doe eats the same thing a buck does, her droppings will clump too. Now I do know that does don't make rubs but the bigger the rub there is a good chance that it is a good buck. I have always heard and I do beleive, "big bucks will make little rubs but little bucks don't make big rubs". Just my thoughts.
