i've never seen deer in a downpour, but i'll bet others in this forum have. i missed a 7ptr once in a fairly significant rain once. i was considering getting down because i figured no deer would be moving in this stuff, but this one was. i missed him at 7 yards! the same deer came back about 10 minutes later as i was half way down the tree.

you never know unless you're out there.

I agree with both points.I have seen alot of deer in the rain (not a downpour) so hunting
can be very good, also agree about the bloodtrail being lost. Many a deer has been lost due to no blood trail. If you are familiar with the area, and have a real good idea where a shot deer will go and have people who are willing to help you locate a deer, I say go for it. You need to think about if your willing to lose a deer because of wanting to hunt so bad.

I have shot a few deer in rainstorms with the rifle, but they do not move after the magnum hits them usually, wiht a rainstorm and bow hunting , I agree that they move great just after and before a storm, but during I would sit in a dry house waiting LOL!Not only to keep dry but becouse I have lost a deer becouse it rained one night and I lost all sign! I have shot a deer with bow in slight drizzle and tracking of him was hard ,luckely I had a idea were he went!

I agree with most of that philosophy and insight. My biggest struggle here would be with the extent of the unpredictable. After nearly being struck by lightning,{which is always possible during any rainstorm.} I have to ask myself is it worth it?

That particular bow hunt taught me a very valuable lesson I'm not soon to forget! Aside from the stress and hassle of drenching my gear, a bit of ethics comes into play. Shooting a deer with archery gear sometimes involves a bit of a wait before tracking. If for whatever reason from the time of the shot, until tracking is warranted you encounter a substantial rainfall tracking is nearly impossible. There are just to many variables involved with this kind of hunting, and I myself would rather wait until conditions improve a bit. JMO

i always look forward to a hunt right after a good heavy rain storm . it seems it gets them and going. i also don't mind hunting in the rain - don't like getting wet but have had sucess in the rain.

I totally agree. A light rain doesn't bother me or the deer at all. I haven't seen much deer movement in a downpour either. After a downpour quits though, it seems that the deer move a lot.
