We started hunting Thursday morning, which ended up with him missing a 3 pointer at about 120 yards. We had the 3 and a 7 point out that were both legal, but he decided that the 7 pointer would turn into a pretty decent buck if he was allowed to grow, so he decided to try to take the 3 pointer and couldn't quite pull it off.
After a big dinner, we went back out to the stand for the evening hunt, and just had a few does come out.
Friday morning started off with a coyote running around before daybreak, and then a couple of does and two small bucks that weren't legal. The evening hunt we had 8 does and a nice, but not quite legal 6 pointer come out, and we were about 5 minutes away from Jake taking a shot at one of the does when something spooked them and they all ran off.
Saturday morning started out with a fairly large black boar coming across the sendero before daybreak at about 30 yards. About 30 minutes later we had 3 does come out and then following the footsteps of the hog, here came our buck. He was too close to allow us to get ready for a shot, when he first came out, then he turned and walked straight away from us. At about 100 yards he stopped, still facing away from us and started looking around for about a minute or so. All the time I could hear the heavy breathing from Jake and could see the gun barrel moving. I was telling him to just stay calm and wait until the buck turned broad sided, all the while I was telling myself there was no way he would be able to hit it after waiting this long. I could tell he was having a bad case of buck fever. Finally, the buck turned and I told Jake when he was ready to take it. At the sound of the shot, I could tell he connected and the reaction of the buck was confirmation of that by the way he jumped. He ran about 30 yards before piling up. Here is a pic of them.
