    Default Pulled Our Stands

Born2Hunt and I pulled the stands off our lease land today. Our regular season ends next Sunday. After that is a week of Muzzleloader season. Our schedules will probably only allow us to hunt the weekends anyway. Long range forecasts for the weather are looking pretty poorly for next weekend. We have had years we have had to get our stands out in over a foot of wet snow. This is no fun!
This surely doesn't mean we are through hunting by any means. Just lessens the chance of getting a heart attack trying to trudge through the snow. 50 Deg. [today ] isn't bad working weather.
It is almost traumatic when we do pull our stands as we know the season is nearing closing. Really is a good feeling though, knowing the work is done but we still have two weeks left to hunt.
We will do more still hunting now. This seems to be more effective this time of year anyway!

I hate pulling stands although I do it every year. I usually pull them somtime during the season as I hunt out of them. When I am done for the day or evening, I pack them out with me one at a time. I usually then hunt from a stool as I like to move from spot to spot and it is easy with a lightweight stool.

I own my own land also. I just don't want to let them rust and the seats get chewed by squirrels until next season.

Will have to bring my climber and the hangon stands in at the end of the season. Thankfully I will be able to drive the tractor to within pretty close distance to them both. Rest of the stands will remain out.

I just wrap a walmart plastic bag over the seats and tie it off..squirrels dont like the noise, or chew em at all, plus they keep the seats dry. I do pull my treelounges..

I have one stnad that has been in the wods since I bought it, I did have to replace the seat on it though. I have some premanant stands that I use that are in the woods also. I guess this completes another chapter to the hunting log

Don't forget the porcupines! They always chew through my ratchet straps and seats if I leave my stands out. I will go get mine during Christmas vacation since I am hunting till Dec. 17th.

All our stands are metal store bought. The trees grow every year so the stands will have to be reset at the least. The constant swaying of the tree twists the stands some and I am sure after a time would weaken them. Next year I am sure I would want to reposition at least 3 of the 5 as our plot layouts are always changing. We figure we might as well pull them and be safe rather than sorry. The older ones still look like new. Good stands are not cheap. I figure it is best to get them down and stored inside where they are clean and dry.
