Great question! I don't know any home made lures, but I know that a lot of people make their own cover scent with a baking soda and water mixture. Lets hear some more!

i buy a bottle of turpentine from rite-aid and pour only a small bit in with a spray bottle for my cover sent. smells just like a pine tree if you dont put too much turp. great for hunting around pine trees. i killed a 10 pt using it. (and i was climbing an oak tree when i did it too)

i also use a bag that my corn comes in, and fill it half full with rotten fruit (pears, apples, blueberries...anything) and pour a 4lb. box of rock salt(ice cream salt) in it and let it hang on a tree so as to drip down the bark. I have it hanging on a tree near my blind for a little over a month now and there is almost no bark left from the deer licking it off

I have taken walnut hulls (the thick green cover of the black walnut) and made a dark tea with warm water put it in a spray bottle. the only downfall is that you become familiar with any squirrels in the area LOL

I take some Cedar limbs and boil them for about 2 hours. Strain it and put in a spray bottle and there you have it...
Makes a real good cover scent for our area....

I store all of my hunting clothes in a cedar chest. It gives them a nice "cedary" smell when I take them out.

Not bad, soon we'll have enough tips and recipes that we can make a book called 'The Realtree Cook book to hunt down Deer" and also pass to our Young Bucks.

    So please keep them coming.

I'm guessing that there is some kind of hole in the bottom of the sack, right? I've never heard of this, but it souds like a pretty decent idea. Any pics?

Here is one that i found that works great
    Scent Eliminator Formula:

1.5 qt Hydrogen Peroxide (3% Formula)
This is not the stuff in the brown bottles bought at the drug store/supermarket. You need to go to a swimming pool supply store and buy a gallon of “Shock & Oxidizer”. This is a 27% solution. Be very careful not to get any full strength solution on you or anything else you don’t want burned/ruined/whatever. Dilute with distilled water (5oz S&O to 43oz distilled water. Again BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE FULL STRENGTH PRODUCT!!!!! Rubber gloves and eye protection would be a good idea.

Or, you can use the drug store stuff with the realization that there is a stabilizer chemical added which has a faint odor that will dissipate quickly.

    2 qts distilled water

    ½ cup of baking soda

    1oz of unscented laundry detergent

    Mix in a large container

Pour into an opaque (can’t see thru if you use the S&O) 1 gal container
Leave uncapped for several days to let the gases produced to vent off.

Store the “big batch” in a dark place as hyp/oxi deteriorates into water when exposed to sunlight.

Fill smaller opaque bottles to use in the field.

Oh yes, you can expect a white residue after using this recipe. It’s merely baking soda.

If we use hyd/oxi wont it bleach our camo and other gear? Nope hyd/oxi only bleaches when it is combined with other chemicals found in hair bleach/coloring.
The 27% formula will damage most anything it comes into contact with.

    What about Triclosan?

Triclosan has been determined (by some scientists) to be a hazardous material. I don’t want to spray that on my skin.

p.s if you want it to have a earth scent, mix a small battle of earth scent to the gallon container.
