    Default Cougar-killed muley buck (photos)

I found this dead buck about a month ago while walking my dog about 4 miles south of my house. A Conservation Officer confirmed that this was most likely a cougar kill. The deer had been skinned, the guts had been removed and placed a good 20 feet away, and the meat below the tarsal glands on the rear legs had been left alone (all consistent with cougar kills). There was also absolutely no coyote sign. Apparentley coyotes keep their distance from a cougar kill.

About a week later, two cows from a neighboring rancher's pasture showed up in the backyard of my acreage. The rancher said his cattle had been acting spooked lately and wasn't at all surprised when I told him of the cougar kill I had found a week earlier.

Man that is incredible... Makes you wonder if it was a health buck or injured, either way... just amazing. Those cat's can do some serious damage.

Very elusive critters and they will take a healthy animal just as fast as one that is injured.

I have come across a few cougar kills in the mountains. Makes a person stop and think. Always am wondering if they are watching me for their next meal!!!!

Where's the problem with a cougar killing a muledeer-I thought that had been going on for thousands of years-better a buck than a kid. The big predators belong out there as much as we do-sure not a shortage of deer in most parts of sask.

Pretty amazing becouse we are not supposed to have any in sask! I also have heard form quite a few peopel that there was a few released in the sandhills in the 60's I believe to controal the deer population, still to this day they deny it! I have seen big cat tracks a few tiems south of me and had stories of them up till sept 5 or so this year, while bowhuntign I seen the cattle going crazy, I sat back and got the binos out looking for Glen or wendy[landowners] moving cattle by horseback, then I see movement and seen a cat runnign over the top of a hill abotu 600 yards away, was pretty clear with 12 power binos! one of the most awsoem sites I ever seen!! Also in 85 or 86 I was trapping close to town with the wardens son and one night he came by to pick us up on our 2 mile hike back to town from our last set, he said eh had soemthign to show us and brought us to the wardens shack, in there was a big whitetail buck that was attacked from a tree, you could see the claw marks down each side soem even braking ribs and peeling the hide away, the back of the next was broke looked like it grabbed the neck, the only reason they found the deer not eaten was a rancher was fixing fence and heard the commotion and called it in and they found the deer! He said after being broght up to the city was confirmed a cat kill!!
    Nice pics thanks for sharing!!
