Pike County- Illinois or Northern Iowa
For the money... land in Iowa is quite reasonable... I do not know what Land in Kansas runs... Northern WI is not Terrible either... at least compared to where I am.
You can buy prime deer hunting land in west Texas for about $300 - $350 per acre. Its semi-arid, so its not good for much else, but you can find some that's loaded with deer, turkey, quail and rattlesnakes.
I LOVE DEER HUNTING HERE IN ILLINOIS,BUT LAND IS PRETTY PRICEY.LOTTA BIG BUCKS RUNNING AROUND THOUGH.I WOULDN'T MIND HAVING SOME PROPERTY IN IOWA TOO.
IVe your looking for an investment Jo Daviess County IL can not be beat. In IL we are 4th in BC bucks and 7th in PY. The quality of our bucks is rapidily improving every year, and within a few years you will prolly hear about Jo Daviess as much or more than Pike county. Also check Des moines county Iowa and Chariton County Iowa
Any state here in the midwest is able to grow monsters. I really enjoy hunting here in Illinois but Iowa, Kansas would be great too.
Pike County, IL is hard to beat though
If you have the money, just about anywhere in Wisconsin. Buffalo County is the #1 county in the country for Pope & Young whitetails.
I think there are a lot of great places to buy land. I would start by asking you where you live, it doesn't do a lot of good to own great land in a state then live 20 hours a way.
Besides hunting time, there are a lot of benefits to living fairly close to your land. To maximize your deer you will want to do some type of management on the land, and there are always issues with security & trasspassers. If you live within distance to get there regularly you can get a lot more enjoyment out of your land.
All of the states named, and more have great hunting possiblilites. I think I would start by looking at land in your state/region.
Think Montana would be at the top of my list.
My uncle lives in and owns a motel in South Central Kansas. He has hunters staying at his motel all season and regularly bringing in 170"+ bucks (last year a guy from Oklahoma took a 210") and land averages about $300/acre.
Ground here in Pike County is extemely expensive. There is great hunting in just about every county in the state though. If I was going to buy some ground to keep in the family I would want to invest in some in the general area of where I live. Unless of course you are thinking of relocating anyway. I think that wherever you buy ground at that you can make good productive hunting out of it. Granted some places will naturally be better than others but there are always stories of guys that have practiced QDM & are reaping the benefits of it from just about everywhere.
gotta love kentucky
knobs in the middle, mountains to the right,
fields to the left

Racksie,
You have been misinformed about land prices in Oklahoma.

I didn't say anything about land prices in Oklahoma. I've honestly never thought about land prices in Oklahoma. The price I mentioned is for land in the area of Kansas I used to live in and my uncle still does.
