Do the bucks still have antlers at that time? I do know that they start dropping at that time up here in the north!!!!
I would do that, sounds like a great way to extend the season, if land to hunt on is available..
I wouldn't let the ticks keep you away, they woun't be an issue till you harvest the deer.
If you get one, and and there are still ticks around, don't bring the deer inside right away. I shot a deer on the opening weekend last year, when we hung it in the garage & it started cooling down it was raining ticks underneath it. They don't like the cold dead bodies & drop off to find a live body to go to. Hang it outside for a while so they are off & not inside.
