Default Go in or stay out?

had a wierd experience tonight.Theres a farmer here my families know forever. He always lets us hunt whenever we ask and has in the past told us to go ahead and hunt deer whenever we want to on his land.Weve never really bothered hunting deer there though cause he doesnt have a lot of deer around there.

tonight we were driving past his house and I seen a monster buck going into the back of his grove with a couple does. The groves real small and close to the house so we pulled in hoping to get permission quick and get someone in the grove before the buck got to that end of it.Nobodies home We discussed it for a minute and it dawned on us nobody would be home again till spring, they go south for the winter.

So having recieved permission in the past, and being told you could hunt deer wherever you wanted on his place, would you have went ahead and went after the buck, or since you hadnt asked this year would you have got back in the truck and left?Just curious to hear some replies, then Ill tell you what we decided.

I would go ahead and hunt since I had previous permission.

I agree, I'd go ahead and hunt too.

I guess it depends on the relationship you have with the farmer.... If it is strong... then go ahead.

Since he has told you that you can hunt his land "whenever you want", then I would assume you have his permission to hunt this year too. Soooo, what did you do???

In Connecticut, that wouldn't have been a problem, as you need written permission to hunt any private property.

As for your situation, its really your call. You know the farmer, and he did give you permission. If you are comfortable hunting on that permission, I don't see a problem with it. You seem to be questioning the permission though.

Have to agree with this Chris. Dont know about your laws there, but here you are supposed to have the landowners written permission on you. Might go ahead and get a written permission from him when he returns to keep with you in the future.

Ok, we did go in after the buck, but we ran outta daylight before we had a chance to shoot.

And today I found out we should probably not have went in at all.The grounds leased by another guy for farming, and hes also currently deer hunting it.Im a little unclear on the specifics of their agreement but the guy that leases it kinda watches the place for them while thier gone. The grove the buck was in however has nothing to do with the leased ground, so I still think we were ok, he doesnt lease the grove or building sight, just the tillable acres.

We planned to go after the buck this morning but after finding out someone else was hunting it decided to just leave it be and avoid a headache for both of us.Guesse it just goes to show ya, things can change from year to year so your still better off asking even if theyve told you to go ahead in the past
