    Default Do you Bait Deer?

Just wondering how many of you guys bait deer for hunting. This doesnt include food plots. Corn piles, feeders, or something else you put out to attract them into range. I personally do not bait deer. I hunt them over natural food sources. Just wanted to see how many do this.

I do,and have no problem with it if legal where you hunt. I beleive there is no diff. between plots or a farm field..man put those in too...also have no problem hunting that...I also hunt natural feed. (ie),. acorns..any tool that I can use to my advantage, if legal I'll use.

Do you use deer calls, rattling horns or scents/lures? I consider all those bait also.

illegal to use bait piles of any kind in Illinois, I do hunt a few food plots, and use grunt calls. Use the farmers corn and beans to the best of my advantage.

Nope, no baiting here. Have used corn at cams in the off season though.

Yeah, on occasion, but must say I've never had any hunting success with it. The deer typically eat the leftover apples, carrots or corn at night.

No. I tried it when NJ legalized it. Too darn expensive in the long run. Shot a nice buck at a crabapple tree I helped along.

On the ranch I hunt we have 7 free choice protein feeders and about 15 timed corn feeders. We don't typically hunt the protein feeders, but the corn feeders are an excellent tool for herd management. A lot of the does and many of the 1.5 and 2.5 year old bucks will hit the corn feeders during legal shooting hours, so this presents a great opportunity to harvest does and bucks that are carrying undesirable antler traits. I rarely see any bucks older than 2.5 coming to the feeders to eat. During the rut, an older buck may occasionally troll by and check out any does that are around, but they never stop to eat.

Oh yeah, I might add that along with the protein feeders and corn feeders, we also have 600 acres of food plots.
