i have always hunted out of ladder stands and am planing on getting some hang on stands i was just wondering which are the best and if any one has any tips on hanging them

Same here, besides a climber is portable. You can go anywhere anytime! Which is why I use one!

Welcome to the forums.

Not real fond of my hang on stand either, it is not very comfortable at all. If you do decide to use hang ons, make sure to find one that has a good seat like the summit's.

I agree 100%. IMHO if youre going to a hang on stand why give up the ladder? They are a lot easier to climb and just as effective.

However, if you switch to a light weight portable you will like it a lot more. Like the others said, anywhere, any time.

I disagree , although i love my climber and my ladder stands, one branch can ruin a set up with a climber and the angle of of tree and branches with a ladder. Hangons can go just about anywhere. Any height , in that perfect little pocket nothing else could fit, and could be the most comfortable. There are so many to choose from , so if any, i would get one with a folding seat rest so when your standing its out of the way. A large platform is also a good thing. Just keep in mind that hangons you can move around any where you want them at any height as climbers and ladders you cannot. I have a couple of Gorillas stands that are very comfortable and have padded backrest which are very reasonably priced.

I commend those of you that use climbers. I used one for a year and couldn't wait to put it in storage and hunt the ladder stands. But as far as your question, some portables are very adaptable, moreso than ladder stands at least. Summit makes a great treestand, but they do come with a higher pricetag. Just find one that suits your needs. Pay attention to foot platform size! A lot of people overlook that and pay too much attention to how comfortable the seat is.

I also like hang-ons better than climbers. Climbers can be so noisy, both when carrying them in and while climbing. And you don't have to pick out a perfectly straight tree with no lower branches to put up a hang-on. I like to have my stands already in place when I sneak into my hunting area in the morning. That way I can silently climb up into my stand in the dark. I like gorilla stands. The aluminum ones are nicer for hanging and carrying, but once you have them up it doesn't matter what they are made of.

I used a ladderstand for years but decided to go with a lower profile and use a hang-on with a mini-ladder. I bought a Gorilla Kong and loved it. It was solid and reasonably priced. I bought another Kong and bought a stick-ladder which I haven't used yet. I was comfortable in the hang-on and would recommend it. If you live near a Cabela's, Bass Pro or Gander they usually have a lot out and you can at least take a look at one before you buy. Don't get me wrong, I still have a ladderstand and use it (i keep it out all year long) and it works great too. I just wanted to try something different. I don't use a climber because of my age mostly and I get a little stiff when it's real cold. Then. I don't feel comfortable trying to get a climber down the tree. I hunt on private property and don't move the stand once they are up either. I killed three deer out of the one stand last year. archery, rifle and muzzleloader.

Remember, a hang-on can go on almost any tree. With a climber you have to have the perfect tree that is is straight and limbless.

I like the hang ons because there are not many trees on our property that will work with a climbing stand. You can be just as portable by setting up several stick ladders at you stand sights and then move you hang on if you do not want to buy several. I have used alot of brands but I love my king kong it is eight years old and still works great. I like the large platform for comfort and easy of movement.

Gorilla makes good stands, but really any company that's in a respected magazine or sporting goods store will make something reliable. The only tips I can really give about hanging them are to have someone else there when you're doing it, use a safety harness/belt when you're up in the tree, and replace any strap that's not a chain or a ratchet strap with one or the other.

There is nothing like getting to your hunting spot, putting on your harness and going right up the tree. Quickly and most important, quietly.

Climbers do have their place. I use my Lone Wolf quite a bit in locations where it will work for me. Most times however, the only straight tree is not in the right place. Hanging stands more than any other let you hunt the right spot. There are places in the midwest where you are best off to leave the climber at home.

Most ladder stands or fixed ladder steps need a straight tree which can limit you, also. There are many stands on the market. Find one that fits you and your expected comfort level. Getting in the tree is where you should point your focus. There are a variety of climbing sticks and tree steps that will do the trick. Always wear your harness and climbing belt. Good luck!
