Whats the difference?

So today I went and took a little walk on my hunting land because I hadnt been in there for a couple weeks. I was hoping to find some fresh deer sign like rubs and scrapes. Well the problem is I didnt find much. I have found a total of 3 rubs, and 0 scrapes. Last year I had found close to 40 rubs and 7 or 8 scrapes on this same property. I cant figure out why there is such a difference from last year to this year. Any guesses?

Last year it was the core area for 1 or several bucks.- this year its not- move on.

well let me say it a different way. What the difference between this year and the last 8 or so years? I compared it to last year in the original post, but its been that way for many years...until now.

It might not be time yet for them to start activley scraping and rubbing. I have a buddy who hunted western kentucky last weekend and seen bucks still bachelored up. I say give it a week or two and it will probably be like what your used to.

Do you have specific crop rotations in your area?

I know around me, corn will hold deer longer than beans will because it gives them cover. Last year I shot my buck that hopped the fence from out of the corn, this year I won't see too many deer because I have beans around me.

No crops close to this property. All hay fields, pasture, and hardwoods in the area. Closest crops are more than a mile away.

Nope. Everything is normal. The only thing different is the woods are a mess because of the massive ice storm we had this past winter. It broke alot of tree tops and limbs and the woods are a mess. Thats wide spread though. Wouldnt think that would cause a problem.

chould be a few things, you didnt' say how big the property was so we have no idea if you covered the hole thing but i bed you did. SO it might just not be time yet OR you dont have the buck population that you did in the past, OR the positive you dont have the buck population you did in the past BECAUSE you have a larger dominate buck in the area that might be pushing off more of the smaller bucks and the 1 larger buck just aint rubbing as much as a larger buck population whould be.
