    Default What caliber does everyone use for whitetail deer?

    I am thinking about buying a new deer rifle for either me or my wife. She has pretty much taken over my Browning Abolt 30-06. She wants to stay with a "big" rifle as the recoil doesnt bother her. I got her to shoot a Rem 700 in 7mm08 and she liked it except for it was a smaller round than the 30-06. I am leaning toward just letting her have the Browning and buying me a TC Encore Pro Hunter. So my question is what does everyone shoot for whitetail deer and what has bee your experence with that particular round. Most shots will be within 200 yards at Alabama deer (150-175lbs).     I shot my last whitetail with my Weatherby Mark V ultralight in 338-06 A-Square. Retinal detachment for old folks!

    My favorite for deer is a 270 Wichester. I use Handloads with 130gr. Nosler Ballistic tips. Every deer I have ever shot with it has dropped stone dead like it was hit by lightning.

    I have a Pro-Hunter in a 30-.06 and it works great. I love it and would recommend them to anyone.

    .270 here have a few deer with it and havnt had one take a step.

    i have one of those as well... loved it, i now use a 300 win mag, but that 270 sure dropped many a critter stone dead
