Basically the difference between a typical and a non typical buck is 15 inches...A buck with 15 inches or more of non typical points or antlers is considered to be nontypical in terms of record books. It gets a little confusing here too though Alan...If a buck scores lets say 185 and has 15 inches of abnormal points, those points will be deducted from his gross score, giving him a net score of 170 typical. The minimum requirement for a pope and young typical buck entry is a net score of 125. The minimum entry for a nontypical pope and young is 155. So the further the buck is from the minimum (net) will most likely determine what category he falls into...in my example above, he would be considered a typical because his overall net score was 45 inches more than the minimum requirement for a typical entery, but only 15 inches more than the minimum requirement for a nontypical entry. It gets pretty confusing, i know, and its even harder to explain.

The difference between P&Y and B&C is basically the caliber of buck...a minimum entry for P&Y is 125, where the minimum for B&C is 160 (for the year) and 170 (for all time). I just learned about the B&C year and all time thing a few weeks ago. I always thought a B&C was a minimum of 170...

As of January 1 2008, the 15 inch rule was introduced to the scoring requirements because there were a huge amount of bucks being entered into the books as non typical, based on a few kickers and stickers. It is a rule, not a law, and what category the buck falls into is ultimately determined by the measurers and the board of the P&Y and B&C clubs.
I think i got it all...If i missed something, please someone, fill in what i missed. Or if im wrong, please correct me.

You got us there, Alan. P&Y is the archery record book (except for crossbows), I think B&C is any though and Longhunter is for muzzleloader. Safari Club is another one you'll run into as well and that is for any and also includes game from around the world. It usually scores the best in SCI too. Hope this helps!

Pretty sure P&Y is archery only, where B&C is gun, ML, bow or cross bow....Not totally sure on that, but i think thats the difference...
