My co-worker and fishing/hunting buddie, Bob D, went out today to get in some pike fishing. He saw that his shanty was gone when he got there. This was a very well constructed, instulated double wall, 5x8, with nice tin roof and the whole works.
IE: Heavy.
Not only that but he has always drilled holes under it at each end to put cables/anchors in to freeze and then attached the cables threw the floor and secured from the inside. Never left a rope or tow bar on it and never left anything in it to curb any would-be break-ins.
Now we had a few real warm days a week or so ago and he thinks the anchor holes may of opened up and possible the shanty was blown out and across the bay. It was very windy about that time too.
I have my doubts about that.
Its possible, but to me highly unlikely IMO.
The shanty was just to heavy and pushed very hard even on ice. Plus it was situated so the wind was t-boning the back at 90* to the runners. The wind would of had to spin the shanty 90* before it would of moved/slid.
I feel bad for Bob D and wish there was something I could do.
Furthermore, it really sucks since the spot is now up for grabs and its one heck of a pike spot. A ton of people know that too...
Looks like ice fishing will not be as plentiful this year as it normally is.
Sorry Bob.....![]()
