    Default .32-20 pistol

I got an old Smith and Wesson revolver from a guy today and he says it takes .32 Smith and Wesson Long bullets, but on the side of the barrel it says .32-20 CTG. Is the gun the .32-20 Military and Police Model? It doesn't have any model number or anything on it. Anyone know much about this gun or caliber. The gun has a 6 inch barrel, fixed sights, 6 round cylinder, checkered walnut grips, and its DA, SA. Will the .32-20 shoot the .32 Smith and Wesson Long cartridge.

    Terry,

Sorry, I must have missed this post.

The info stated by modillo is incorrect. The cartridges are different.

If the gun is marked .32-20 that's what you should use. The .32S&W is a smaller case both in length and diameter.

In the above picture the .32-20 is on the right and the .32 S&W on the left. The difference in case diameter would make the .32S&W a very sloppy fit in the cylinder. While it may fire, I wouldn't advise it. I would think accuracy would be horrible.

As far as what model your gun is.......it's hard to tell without seeing a picture. If you have the ability to get a pic posted we may be able to identify it. There are a couple guys here that can help.
