    Default Springfield XD

I've been shopping for a new CCW. The Springfield XD looks like a heck of a pistol. I'm looking at a .40 S&W with a 4" or possibly 3" barrel if that makes any difference. Any and all comments are appreciated. Thanks.

I bought a .45acp in the black tactical 5" just because. It is very accurate and fits my hands well. The 5" barrel helps the recoil recovery too. Our liberal Governor keeps vetoing our Concealed Carry bill in Wisconsin so I can't help you on the carry part. I wouldn't carry this gun anyway as it's frame is a bit big. I love the gun overall and it is a lot of fun to shoot. Hope you choose a SA XD too.

Yeah, that's why I'm considering the 4" and maybe 3" model. I've got a Colt 1911 that I keep in my bedside table, but the .45acp is a bit much for a shorter, more concealable, weapon.

I have a 9mm in the 3" model and my son has the .40 in a 4 ". Excellent pistols. No problems and I like the additional grip safety. Can't be too safe these days.

You can't go wrong with SA--they make great pistols.I tried the XP but can't get used to the DA trigger.I prefer a single-action auto and decided on a Springfield V10 Ultra-compact in .45acp.It's a bit heavy for a small pistol(33oz),but that, the Hogue grips, and the ported 3.5"barrel really control recoil

I love my xd...I have a 4" barrel in 9mm and it has been great, never had the slightest malfunction.

My friend bought one of these XD .45 back a few months...he has been very pleased and I really like shooting it. He carries it as his CCW most of the time, sometimes he does say it's a bit heavy though.

Have you shot it at night yet? I only ask because I wonder about muzzle flash in dark situations.

I'll definitely have to give this one a look though, I do like the .45 acp.

I had heard that ported barrels throw a lot of flash up into your line of sight.

Good looking pistol for sure! Can't beat the classic polished stainless.

I too have been looking at getting a CCW handgun. I've looked at the SA XD and like it a lot, but I've also noticed some of the S&W pistols lately and wondered how they might compare.

Then I received a Bass Pro ad today that lists the S&W Sigma pistol kit (gun in 9mm or 40cal, 2 magazines, combat light) for $380.

Does anybody have experience, good or bad, with the S&W Sigma? How well does it compare to a XD?

I saw that ad too. Looks like a really nice piece with some pretty cool features.

I specifically bought my SA XD40 subcompact as my CCW and absolutely love it. I probably could have gone with the full 4" barrel but I love the smaller grip with the Pearce grip extension.

That's the one I've got my eye on, except I'd like to find it in the drab green.

How do you like handling the 3" barrel? Accuracy? How about target acquisition on multiple shots?

    Thanks

    Ben
