Default springfield armory

anyone here have the Xd model pistol? i was looking at either the 9mm or 40 s&w. I saw in a magazine add, that they offer it now with a holster and extra mag. just wondering how they hold up. this would only be for toying aroung at the range, or home defense, if needed!

I'll be interested to see the responses to this too...I am looking at an XD40 Service Model with the 4" barrel...Of course that is down the road a little...

well personaly i would go with the 40 s&w because the 9mm has no knock down power and the 40 s&w is a better all around round... the feds use it more then the 9mm and so does the millitary.

I personal know nothing about the XD. I was able to find a review done by Guns and Ammo:

    Hopefully this will help you.

I've got the XD 9 in 4inch service model. Never had any problems with it. I don't particularly agree with the 9mm being insufficient, the NYPD as well as other law enforcement agencies use the 9mm, if it is good enough for law enforcement it should be good enough for the citizen. All the same, I've got a Springfield 1911 GI model on lawaway right now.

I don't own an XP but have seen them to be quite popular with the IDPA crowd. The compact size in a .40 cal should be a very nice PD gun.

Yep, I've put about 600-700 rounds through my XD-9 and had one jam on the 2nd round ever fired, after that no probs whatsoever.

Thanks for the reply Shooter Dan...Police friends of mine are trying to steer me towards the Glock because that is what they shoot...Well, I want something different. I don't want to be down at hunting camp and pick up the wrong gun because all of our sidearms look the same.

Most law enforcement uses this round for "political correctness" and good press. 9mm will not reliably knock down a threat time after time. Jeff Cooper (How to ride, shoot straight, and tell the truth) writes of a Israeli millitary man who inadvertantly encountered a trio of unfriendlies in a room with carbines. The result of the encounter was 4 dead men. The fellow with the 9mm placed his shots correctly, but failed to neutralize on the first hits. Something to think about... .40 has about the same recoil but 50% better balistics. Stick to a major caliber if you think your life may depend on it. High caps will not save your life, one shot stops will!!

Back to the XD I have had one for a while, I shoot IDPA and non-sanctioned defensive pistol matches with it. It is an amazing weapon. The ergonomics are far superior to the Glock family (I know, I've owned one), the trigger in my opinion, is better, and the reliability is all that as the other replies have stated. Through in a ambidextrous mag release and a slide lock that can be released without a shift in grip and you got one heck of a weapon!! The XD service model (4") is big enough to be effective and small enough for concealed carry in any climate. I highly recommend it for anyone for either application.
