Default need some suggestions or tips

Ok my dad has this old 12 gauge that he wants me to paint up. the barrel is a littly rusty i think and im sure the gun is about 25 years old or so. Is there anything special that i need to do to the gun b4 painting? like sanding the stock or anything. i am using camo patterns and plan on painting the barrel along with almost everything else. thanks for any tips

nope just paint, maybe primer if you feel like it, ask HSOG he did a pretty good paint job on his 870.

I recently did my 870 and yes their is always a little prep you should do to make paint stick better.

1st clean the gun with rubbing alcohol and dry wipes to remove any gun oil, grit, dirt, etc. Obviously paint wil not stick to something thats got those things on it.

I personally would do my best to remove all rust too and follow up with the alcohol wipes..

Sanding the stock is a 50:50.
I chose not to since my feelings were it is sealed already and would not allow the paint to soak in causing uneven painting.
Maybe rough it up some but dont remove all the finish...

Prime it with a few coats letting it dry inbetween.

After the primer is dry them paint as you want.
I suggest to disassemble the gun though, dont paint it as a whole unit.
Remove the barrel and wood from the action and remember to keep the paint from getting inside the action.. I stuffed a rag inside mine and taped very few things to keep the paint off key things..
Most shotguns can be broke down quite easily..

    Heres a pic of mine.

That looks great, should i start with the lighter colors first and then go to darker ones? How does the wood come off the action? I have an 870 also and my dad said i could use this gun as practice.
