Is the ThermaCell everything they claim it to be? I was thinking about buying the table top model for out by the pool to protect the kids. If you Thermacell owners could give me some pros and cons I would be much oblidged.
Thanks

I have a hand held unit and it works well - when the winds are calm. If it's breezy, you have to pray for high enough winds that the flying critters cant' get clearance for takeoff.
I was a skeptic until I got one this spring. They do work, I was very skeptical but after getting eating alive one day while chasing turkeys I got one and they do the job. My only regret, not buying one years ago!!
I got the holster for mine and it makes it nice to carry it around. Very good investment!!
My little 3D buddies!
I've got a table top one, and it works great! Our front porch is 10'x12' and when we have it on our small table between us on one side, no one on the porch is bothered. I'm tempted to get one of the portable ones for hunting, but am still usure of how "scent free" they are.

Don't have a table top one, so I can comment on that one in particular, but I did buy the hand held one for hunting about 4 years ago, the last time I ever used bug spray. They work!
I just got back from Sask a couple of months ago on my spring bear hunt and without them on the skeeters were unbearbable. With them, they were almost non existant...almost. I will have one for archery season tucked in my pack for those days when they are causing you too much grief.
A good banning is like a public hangin'... everyone wants there to be one, as long as its someone else.

The hand held one for hunting is everything they say it is. It's the only thing I've ever used that keeps biting knats away from my eyes while bowhunting. Same goes for the other biting insects but insect spray has never worked for me when it came to biting knats. I also use mine for turkey hunting and while watching fields in the afternoon during the off season.
The hand held model is supposed to keep insects away within 5' of the unit. I'm not sure what they claim to effective area is for the table top unit.
I'am interested in one of these too. How long do they normal last or run before you have to refill them? Are the refills really expensive?
