how big is he? I started shooting 20 gauge slugs when I was 9, and I can't imagine that either of those rifles would have the kick of a slug. I was always a pretty big kid though. Let him go shoot a .243 or a similiar caliber and see if he can handle it. I'm sure he will be able to with no problem.

No, a 308 or 243 shouldn't be too big for an average 11 year old, but it is too big for him to start out with. ALWAYS start a new shooter out with an air rifle or a 22 rimfire, then work up to the larger calibers gradually.

The very first trigger I ever pulled was on a 12 gauge shotgun when I was about 6. Certain people in my family thought it would be funny, and for them I guess it was, but I'm still living with the slight crook where it broke my nose.

Check out this recoil table http://www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm It's the easiest one to read that I've seen and from my limited experience is very accurate.

I have a 243, 25-06, 30-30 and a 7mm-08 and the differences seem to be right on the money to what this chart shows.

I would probibly go with the 243 or 30-30 depending on which one he is able to control better.
Luke 22:36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.

Go to your control panel(User CP) then look on the left and click on edit profile. Scroll down and you will see place for location. After getting the location in, submit or save the changes.

And no a .243 is not too much gun for an average size 11 year old. My oldest daughter, 11 now, has been shooting a .243 since she was 7 or 8.

I agree with the .243, great gun and perfect for a young hunter
