I saw a 8x42 and a 10x42 what is the difference? Also what does the 8 mean and what does the 42 mean? Is it the higher the numbers the better?

The first number is the magnification or power. The second number is the objective which is an important factor in the light gathering ability of the binos. Highest number for magnification is not always better, depends on the situation. A good pair of 8 power binos around here are good enough for most hunting situations.

You also need to know what eye relief it has if you wear glasses. Because looking through pin holes even with the eye cups down still sucks! Is it water and fog proof. William is right about the magnification, bigger is not always better! Eight power is good for most hunting situations.

I use the Nikon Monarc 10x42's in Realtree. These Bino's are tremendous with glasses in the lowered cup position. My livlihood depends on great optics. These are wonderful.
