What should I plant?

I have 23 acres in upstate NY and about 6 acres are fields (in the center of the property) Wondering what I can plant that will come up year after year without much maintenance. I live 2 hours away from the property and time is not on my side but I want to give the deer something palatable and filled with nutrients. Watering would also be a problem because of the location. Any suggestion?

Guessing you want a perenial plot. Would look at planting a clover mix. If you prep the soil right, maintaining does not require too much time, and you can have a 3-5 year life expectancy of the plot.

Ditto. Our group doesn't have much time or resources either, but our clover does very well.

rye comes back and takes little maintenence. we do a rye winter weat mix with some turnips (back in oklahoma!)
