Default Pics of my other food plot -in progess...( Long )

Technically it is in progess since I took these shots after I sprayed Round-Up today. LOL
The area is roughly and 40x50 yard spot with a mini island of trees in the middle of it. Its surrounded by woods, tree rows, sapplings, brush, etc...
This area is a natural opening and has shown serious deer activity during the fall with a huge community scrape thats there every year and used even now, a seperate scrape line on one side, and last year, tore up with rubs.
There are 7 deer trails that exit the back main woods into this area with 3 heavy trails running under my stand site.
It is an "H" layout of grassy "log" roads in the middle of a sappling thicket really. It runs threw it connecting 2 larger hay feilds but is not used anymore to access either field since they put in coverts in all the ditches at the other side of the property. The connecting center bar in the letter "H" is this food plot area.
BTW I have a tree stand in the "island of trees". The stand is in the middle tree of the 3 thicker trees in the center of pic 1.
The tree still needs to be pruned for shooting lanes...
    Anyways...

Pics 1 and 2 should be side by side with 1 being the left side of the total pic.

He it is from the other side facing my truck. Pics 3 and 4 should be side by side with 3 being the left.

Here is a shot from the tree stand facing the truck and the small area in pic 1.

No what you see is whats there naturally. This pic is of the plot area minutes after the 1st spraying.
I thought about just tilling and planting and letting this regrow as well since its basically a grassy already.
It really is fairly clean of anything else.
Though I am sure once I remove it and plant just food plot seed that "something" of it will come back.
I assume its hard to keep out unwanted plants 100%.

That looks good for bein natural. If you would like to put something in there that doesnt get a lot of weeds, I would say got with some type of clover. Someone can correct me if i am wrong but i believe that the clover chokes out the weeds. I have always had good luck in getting a really good clover plot without any weeds, But the again that area looks good normally.

nice lookin' spot for sure. Turn that spot into a clover/trefoil plot and the deer will really hit it hard--probably see more daytime activity.

    good luck

Yea its definately a transition area befor eth eopen larger clover alfalfa fields. I had always wanted to put a stand it there but the tree were always to small until recently.
That one community scrape has been there for over 7 years now so I know "they" travel threw there.

If you look at pic 2 you can see a pine tree with a bunch of sticks and stuff under it.
I had a ground blind there at one time but you still felt to in the open.

As usual Todd makes a great suggestion, would try some of Martins trefoil/clover mix in there.

    Definitely a great looking spot.

It looks like you did a little homework before you started your project. This should be a good funnel area as the deer move through it. Good Luck.
Planting something Premium there will tend to slow their movement as they head for the open field.

This is my plan. Just to slow em donw and hang out a few mintues before heading out to the big fields for the night.
Hopefully being a seclude area, they may even come out earlier in the afternoon... (???)
I have known many doe to bed down in this area too so I hope I am not tampering with anything...
Oh well if I am, its sprayed now. LOL

just be careful not to over hunt this area---and never hunt it unless the wind is absolutely perfect!

    again--great lookin' spot.

This is one of about 12 stand site I have set up.
It will be the only one with a food plot as all the others are set up on trails leading to the big fields...
I have my favorite still that seems to really produce deer sightings regularly but I am excited about this one knowing the sign I saw in there last fall.
That and the new salad bar I am setting up for them.. LOL
