Default need info for GA plot

I'm gonna put a small plot in a very sandy creek bottom area in Warren co., GA. Is there anything I can plant now or do I need to wait til Aug. Any input is appreciated!

Depends on what you are wanting to plant. If you are wanting to plant a perenial like clover, I would get my prep work done and plan on planting early fall. If you are planting beans or peas, now is a great time.

i've had pretty good luck with cowpeas (iron and clay) in sandy soul.

Sand can be a challenge---doesn't hold anything very long (water, fertilizer, lime).

    best of luck

you can plant the peas now but the deer will have mowed them too mch b4 the season opens. I like to plant my peas right b4 the season opens so that on opening day they are tearing them up. Just make sure that creek bed aint gonna fill up!?!!?

Dont know about your situation with the sand, but along river and creek beds in bottoms, a lot of times the sand on top like Todd says does not hold much, but the soil underneath the sand sometimes is pretty decent soil.

Got a lot of sand on top in the bottom here from the river flooding, but the sand is really not that deep. With so much moisture there, I have had pretty good results from pretty well everything I have planted in the bottom here along the river, just too bad a lot of it is under water now due to some beaver dams downriver from us.

i hunt in Ga too, and have planted 4 foodplots on my property. You could put some beans and peas in the ground just like everyone has said, but anything like clover, oats, rye, or anything like that would due much better if planted in late august or september. That hot Georgia sun would most likely kill a young clover stand trying to establish. Good luck

I was wondering if the peas would die in the hot Georgia heat this early or not.

Cowpeas actually do pretty well in the heat. If they are being planted near a creak bottom, they should get a lot of moisture and should do well.
