    Default Pea Patch Photos

Here are some pictures I took today of one of my warm season plots I planted here in Maryland this early spring. This is Pea Patch and I added our Lablab seed to the mix prior to planting. This plot is right at 2.5 acres in size. It is now 28 days in the ground and doing well despite the mini drought we are experiencing here at the moment. Need rain bad but the bottom plowing I did prior to planting is helping this ground hold moisture well.

The Terrazas sunflower in this mix can grow to 6 or 7 feet in height and everything in this mix will climb up the stalks except the wgf sorghum. Come August I will mow 2/3 of this plot and then plant my cool season crop.

Good luck to all that are planting!

Actually that plot was planted with a 4 foot tractor model Plotmaster. I upped the seed rate which dumped more seed in the furrows. I ran the S tines 2 inches deep when planting and as the tines part the soil and the seeds drop down, the fall into the furrows and then imediately get covered up with the cultipacker and drag. When you run the tines more shallow, the seeds are less likely to gang into the furrows.

Running them deep is like having a drill in itself. Works great for warm season plots.
