What do you use to mow your food plots and fields with?
I just mow with a sycle bar
I use a 6 ft. rotary mower behind my tractor. I sharpen the blades more than normal to get a cleaner cut. I don't use this mower for anything other than mowing grasses. I have a brush hog for rougher use or brush.
I am looking at different finish type mowers to use over my foodplots. The problem is most finish mowers only cut at a max. of about 4 1/2 ". Not ideal for my plantings. Of course I could buy a mower and modify it, but I get tired of rebuilding everything i buy to suit my needs. The reason I like the finish type mowers is the multiple blades spin much faster than rotary cutters. This cuts cleaner and tends to chop the cut grasses up more. I sold my sickle bar mower because I didn't like the cut grasses left on the field smothering new growth.

same here, we have a cub cadet lawn mower with a 30 horse on it so I just use that.
4 ft brush hog behind a 22 hp Kubota subcompact. I hope to graduate to a larger tractor and 6 ft brush hog one day.

Had been mowing with a 7 ft ford sickle bar mower when I cut for hay, but that mower finally wore out on me. When we ar enot cutting for hay, I am using a heavy duty 7 ft bush hog.
A neighbor cut 2 of my plots(rackmaster clover and grower mix) in our hayfield with his disc mower for me Saturday.
We have a couple brush hogs that we use and also have a hay bine, the brush hog seems to work the best for the cut that we want.

I have small plots that I use a Craftsman 40" mower and a 24"tiller to plant with. Alot of sweat goes in to my plots with such tiny, but the only tools availible
Both were freebies![]()
I've got you beat Adam. I use a pair of hedge trimmers! My "plot" is where the lilac bush (see avatar) used to be. Hey, it really draws in the woodchucks who no longer feed in my garden, and it's free food for the ginuea pig.![]()
