poor area in plot?

I have an area(20'x30') in one food plot that I can't get much to grow there. The rest of the plot looks great and when everything started coming up I noticed this thin area so I spread a lot of seed on it again and it still looks the same.This strip is on the east side of a tall hackberry and a tall elm tree but it's getting plenty of sunlight.I'm wondering if this area has too much lime where the spreader bounced the lime off the tree trunks or I didn't get the lime disced in deep enough there?

If I were you I would take a few soil samples from the problem area and get them analyzed. Let us know your findings. If you need help on where to send samples PM me or I am sure dogdoc would have some ideas also.
An idea that comes to mind is perhaps someone dumped something on the soil at one time which really soured it. Maybe even waste oil or something.

I had a soil sample done for this plot and added lime/fertilizer.I probably need to have another sample done on this poor area.
If there is too much lime in this area would it keep the plants from growing?Some of the clover,wheat and oats have came up there but it's not growing as tall as the rest of the plot.
I'll try to get some pictures posted.

I would have this area sampled and tested seperately. Have the analysis done by your local cooperative Extension if possible. Nothing against the Whitetail Institute, but they may not have the means to check for your particular problem. Maybe they do, call them with your info and discuss it with them. They are great people.
I know I wouldn't want to let our local Dept. of Enviromental Conservation get wind of a problem. They would only help me out by relieving me of a lot of money by way of fines for pollution etc. Shhhhh!

I don't think anything has been dumped there and some plants are growing in this area but they're not as tall as the rest of the plot.We're in a drought maybe those big trees are pulling most of the moisture from this area?

In the big picture 20 x 30 ft. isn't that big a deal. I guess I'd wait 'til next year and see what happens. Does make one a little curious though.
