Went out yesterday and listened to the gobbler chorus. Had one gobbling and working his way in my direction. So......completely un-camo'ed, I sat down beside a firewood pile and the longbeard passed by me at about 8 steps !!! Yeah...........he saw me and busted me. But no worry. Wasn't trying too hard to hide. Just nice to see him all up close & personal.

What a 1st week of gobbler season it's been.

Aside from the fact that I should have just pulled the freakin' trigger on Wednesday and filled out tag #1 on a monster, hawg rope. Nevermind that. I just can't remember having the Super X2 in "condition go" so many times in one week and not gassing on it at least once. This whole week's been a rash of one fired-up bird after another coming uncorked, coming almost in then shutting up and/or moving off.

Started out my morning high on the back side of a ridgetop at the far northwest corner of the Strut10 Ranch. I had been hearing a couple toms there the last few mornings when I was hunting clear across the valley on another ridge. Figured I'd change things up a bit today. Well.......the scouting here at the house paid off yesterday when my boy knocked the noggin off his very first gobbler behind the house here......just as planned.

So this morning, I had to go over to the Strut10 Ranch to get one last line on where the gobbling birds are there. Season comes in next Saturday and work precludes me from doing any serious locating M-F.
