    Default Gettin back into hockey.

I was becoming a hockey fan a few years back but stopped paying attention when the minor league hockey team we had in Fayetteville left town like every other pro team that comes to Fayetteville. We've had like 3 different single "A" baseball teams, 2 different Arena Football teams, and now 2 hockey teams. The current team has been here about 4 years now and Thanksgiving night was the first game I had went to of theirs, I forgot how much fun hockey can be, we sat 2 rows from the glass so of course we had the slamming into the boards and a couple fights. We went back again last night and the first fight that broke out the Fayetteville player had drawn back on the opposing player, I was watching closely when he threw the punch and saw a little white thing flying out of the other dudes mouth.

Oh well, so I guess I am back into hockey again. One of these days I will make it up to Raleigh and see the Hurricanes play. Hey TSBH, does Carolina play the Bruins, I wouldn't mind going to see Boston get whooped on and then get back on here and tell you all about it.

Saw a real good tilt in a midget game on Friday night-nothing like two 16 year olds chuckin' knuckles-our local boy got the other guy leaking pretty good-but like good Canadian boys they highfived after the fight.

Sluggo, this is not a good time for jokes

But anyway, yeah the Bruins play them. There are minor league teams everywhere but the closest you'll get is AHL as far as minor goes and there are no teams in the south in the AHL...on the east coast anyway. Our team up here, the Lowell Lockmonsters is the hurricanes affilate(sp). Eric stall played up here last year and now is one of the NHL leading scorers. I always liked minor league hockey. It always seems faster and tougher. Plus I like lots of fighting anyway

Why is this not a good time for jokes, is Boston not doing so hot. I would think you would like being stationed in MA for the opportunity to see the Bruins. Besides, whats a PA native like you doing rooting for a team other than the Penguins or the Flyers.

As far as the minor league team, the team here in Fayetteville, the FireAntz, are in the SPHL (Southern Professional Hockey League) I think it's a fairly newer league, the original team we had a few years back, the Force, were in the CHL I believe until that folded. I might be mistaken as to the league. Anyhoo, I forgot how much I enjoyed it, I think it will be awhile before I go to an NHL game though, those tickets are kinda up there, well, unless you want to sit in the rafters, those run 18 Bucks, the next to the glass tix like I sat at the minor league game run $135, oh well, nobody said I have to sit behind the glass.

We as a family go up and watch Lowell about once a month. I get center ice seats, about 10-12th row up for a total of $52.00 TOTAL. You can't beat that man. Especially last year when alot of the NHL guys played in the AHL due to the lock-out!!! Even now alot of these guys you see, will get re-called to play a game or two with the NHL. I know Lowell gave up 2 guys last week to play a few games with the Hurricanes!

I never liked the Flyers or Penguins. I always seemed to like the Bruins. Don't know why especially this year I don't know why

Well Mike we have NJ tonite.... Hopefully someone shows up to play other than the oppossing team....

If this game goe's down bad I think they ought to bring up Porvidence to replace the Bruins with, I think we would get better results.....

Hope my TV survives this encounter......

Here's some news for ya Mike if you haven't already seen it.....

Back in Wilmington, a new face appeared in the locker room - local player, Dan LaCouture. LaCouture signed with the club last week to a two-way deal and hopes to add some vigor to the team.

Dan LaCouture comes to the Bruins after playing five games in Switzerland with Davos this season. The Hyannis, MA native played locally at Boston University and went on to play with the Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and the New York Rangers before spending last season with the Providence Bruins. He has played in 265 NHL with 16 goals and 23 assists for 39 points, and has accumulated 278 penalty minutes.

“Hopefully I can bring some life to this team,” said an excited Dan LaCouture. “Playing for my hometown is incredible, so I’m just happy I’m here whether it was two months ago or today. This has been a real comfortable situation for me. Coming into this room is like I’ve been here everyday. I know a lot of these guys so it’s great to see them all.”

Coach Mike Sullivan had good things to say about the newcomer as well.

“He’s a big guy that skates really well,” said Head Coach Mike Sullivan. “He brings a lot of energy with a physical presence. For me, he brings a lot of foot speed and he plays a simple game. I like his size and outside speed and it seems those guys are having success. I think he’s excited to be here, and he’s looking forward to the opportunity so he’ll bring some energy. It’ll take him a few games to acclimate himself, but when we put him in I’m sure he’ll make a contribution.”
