A double-steroid-standard??

We all know what has been going on with MLB and the steroid scandal. Heck, Barry Bonds was pretty much convicted last season and he has been put under some severe scrutiny... from everyone including the Federal Legislative Branch.

Now, on the other hand, a phenom NFL linebacker, Shawn Merriman gets busted for a banned substance and he goes directly to the Pro Bowl. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

Bonds' story= he never realized he was taking steriods, it was just a "tainted" supplement. Merriman's story=he never realized he was taking steriods, it was just a "tainted" supplement.

Merriman led the league in sacks, won Defensive Rooke of the Year last year, and has been named to two Pro Bowls. Sure, those records and awards are not the same as the all-time HR record in baseball...but...

When it comes to football, are we that willing to overlook something like this? If we are, why isn't it the same for baseball?

Very strange indeed. BTW---nice job trying to change the topic of the day to take the heat off yourself.

Anyway, my only guess is most people assume that most NFL dudes are on something and have gotten over it a long time ago, or it's because the NFL is much much more about the team and not the indivduals like baseball is.

Plus, don't forget that the homerun records in baseball are easily America's most famous/popular/sought-after records, so I bet that's got a lot to do with it as well.

If you take a substance that is not on the list of illegal drugs, let's say in 2005. But in 2006 it makes the list. Were you in violation of the substance rule in 2005??

I'm pretty sure that alot of the stuff Bonds has been accuused of taking wasn't specifically outlawed by MLB up until a couple years ago.

They were using a type of experimental steroidal creme that hadn't been added to the illegal substance list.

I'm not a pharmacist, but if someone gave me a creme that contained steroids, I would know that something wasn't right. On the list or not.

I've also read that there are legal performance enhancing drugs on the market so what's to say the creme wasn't one them?
