Congrats to them both. Great careers and great people.
I wonder who didn't vote for Ripken?![]()

Craig you always get those voters who are pretty much jerks about things like this, probably didn't want to see him get 100% of the vote. I heard there was 2 blank votes as well. Some will hold a grudge!!
I see Canseco was on the card too but got less than 5% of the vote, he will NEVER see the hall of fame!!![]()
Both very deserving of the Hall. I don't see why anyone would not vote for either of them.
Interesting that McGuire didn't get in. If he never gets in, then Bonds shouldn't either, and that is good.
I think both McGuire and Bonds will never get in. Too bad, great careers tainted by drug scandels, always have to wonder how good they would have been without the juice! Congrats to CAl and Tony, two gentlemen in every sense of the word and both VERY deserving of this honour!

I think Bonds will eventually get in. He was a hall of fame type player even when he was a stick figure back in the early 90's. I think alot of the voters recognize that too. McGwire on the other hand....I don't ever see him getting in.
Bonds and McGwire will both eventually get in.
As for Tony and Cal, they both should have been 100%. Heck, I couldn't stand Gwynn in his Padres days, but I still would've thrown him a vote.
I heard Cal received the 3nd highest # of votes of all time. Tony got the 7th highest. Considering names like Mays, Ruth, Gehrig etc... That's pretty good.
I think it all depends on who is on your ballot.
Ruth was on the first ballot ever for the hall of fame.
Could you imagine being a voter and having to choose between these guys???
Ty Cobb
Babe Ruth
Honus Wagner
Christy Mathewson
Walter Johnson
Nap Lajoie
Tris Speaker
Cy Young
Rogers Hornsby
George Sisler
Lou Gehrig
Jimmie Foxx
Lefty Grove
Joe Jackson
Dazzy Vance
Dizzy Dean
BTW---only the top 5 off this list made it that year.
BTW--Other interesting facts:
Lou Gehrig was never voted into the hall of fame.
In fact, the ballot I listed above was taken in 1936 and Gehrig didn't retire until 1939.
Gehrig entered the hall of fame by proclamation. Basically, someone in power said "Lou Gehrig is in the Hall of Fame." And he was.
Also, Lou Gehrig's jersey number was the first one ever retired.
I learn something new everyday.![]()
I believe Cal definitely should have gotten in the first time around, not so sure about Tony Gwynn. I agree that Canseco will never make it, McGwire and Bonds will eventually. I will admit though I am a little biased. I think Dale Murphy should have made it in by now, but he received enough votes to be around for next year.
I think Canseco seeing that he got some a low percentage of votes will never be on the ballot again, correct me if I am wrong. I think you need a certain number of votes (percentage) to be considered the next year. Jose never did and will never have the chance again.
2 of the classiest guys to ever lace up cleats. Congrats to both of them.

I agree!
Slugshooter,
I think the Murph should be there, too. Two-time MVP on a doormat team. The last few years of his career really hurt his lifetime stats. At least he's still on the ballot for next year.
