A great regular season coach but not in the post season. I don't know if it is bad luck or poor coaching. Guy just can't catch a break in the playoffs.

Watching that game, i was rooting for the Pats if you can believe that one. Anyways, i deffinitely felt like San Diego gave that one away. Brady looked horrible, and the game was all but over after his 3rd pick had that guy not fumbled the ball. The AFC title goes through Indy now. Should be a great game and i like this matchup compared to Colts/Chargers in SD.
The worst part is that San Diego had numerous chances and never capitialized on them! They deserved to loose by more than they did!
You heard it here first!
I made that comment in Nick's thread earlier today. I think it's coaching. You can just see it, he gags in big games. Pats have been there before, they know how to handle the pressure.
One play i questioned was early in game on 4th an 10. He elected to pass up a long FG attempt and went for it. Rivers got sacked. Dont understand that one. Try the FG, or punt the ball. Those possible 3 points look real big right now.
San Diego gave that one away a million times all through the game. With that said, this one does not surprise me at all. New England just has a knack for winning these games.
One thing San Diego needs is some receivers to catch the ball. How many drops were there yesterday? And if I'm not mistaken they did not have a TD catch by a WR for the entire season. No way you can win a Super Bowl without production from your WR's. That's why I never liked them to go all the way.
I get that Marty has a bad playoff record...but come on, that loss had nothing to do with him.
He didn't turn the ball over, he didn't drop all those balls, and he sure didn't commit all those stupid penalties....
Marty gets a bad rap, he deserves some of it for his over use of the prevent defense during his time with Cleveland, but on more than one occassion he's players have let him down. Example...Ernest Byner and the "fumble"

I agree that Sunday's game wasn't really on him although he did make a horrible couple of play calls IMO. But, in the past I know I have seen this guy put his team into a shell in big games and choke them away on multiple occasions.
It's probably not coincidence that all these bad things happen to him in the big games either. The guy just isn't that good at getting his team ready for big time games.
Cam Cameron calls the plays out there John.
What always hurt him in Cleveland was going into the prevent defense with way to much time on the clock. It also took him a few failures before he realized he needed an O-Coordinator.
Besides, guys like Elway and Brady have led comeback victories against him...can't fault him there either.
So you are telling me that Cleveland, KC, and San Diego all super underachieving in the playoffs while Marty was coach is just coincidence? They have all tanked in the same way.
Well, he does have 5 wins doesn't he? All things considered...he did more than enough to win this game, didn't he? If that guy doesn't hand his INT right back to the Pats with that fumble, Marty wins that game, doesn't he?
Take it back to his Cleveland days. If Ernest Byner doesn't fumble on the goalline...Marty wins that game, right?
Are you saying Marty somehow got out on to the field and forced both those fumbles? Or are you saying the stars somehow cosmically align and higher powers simply make Marty lose in the playoffs?
Like I say...outside of his moronic use of the prevent defense...the dude has had some poor luck, and poor matchups against two of the best big game QB's I've ever witnessed with my own eyes.
You been talking to Chris or something? That poor guy actually believes in curses.Marty's a good enough coach to go 14-2, then he's good enough to win a playoff game...its just that his team let him down. Cleveland is also not cursed...the organizaition is just bad.
Come on people...put the tarot cards away.![]()

Curses? What the heck are you talking about? I didn't say he is cursed. I said he is a poor playoff coach, he tightens up in the big game.
That has nothing to do with tarot cards turbo.
BTW---are you defending him just because he coached Cleveland?

What I'm getting at is this...I guy can be 5-100 in playoff ball...but that doesn't mean that his last loss was due to his poor record. His team laid an egg, that's what cost him the game.

Agreed, but why does his team lay an egg almost every single time in the playoffs....no matter where he is at? I don't think that's coincidence. That's my point.![]()

For one, I think he's been able to get his teams to overacheive during the regular season. Like I said...John Elway, Tom Brady...pretty tough competition. I'm guessing if Marty had a big name QB like that on his team...he'd have a Belilchik type record and he'd be the one label the "genius." Maybe then he could wear the PJ's on the sideline and be concidered "quirky" by the media.![]()
