The carp spawn here in Chesapeake VA is just starting to heat up. Unfortunately so is the snake activity. I went to a local carp hotspot today to see if I could catch one on top of the water, no dice. Only a few rolling every once in a while and never could get a shot on them in the mud stained water. However, I looked in the tree in front of me and there sat a small snake. "There is no way im lettin someone get hurt when I got the bow right here with me" I thought to myself, so I mozied back to the truck and got the bow out, came back and shot the snake, snake flew about 5 feet and died. I looked down were he lay in the water and apparently big brother was taking a nap while all of this went on. I watched the 34 inch long cotton-mouth (my new target after killing his little bro) move a little and go under slowly, I waited for him to resurface but to no avail. Then after a few minutes I saw his head popup, I shot right behind his head and got a weak hit with the arrow pulling out soon there-after. He swam under the water and I waited, about 45 seconds later his head popped up going in the other direction, I shot at about 15 yards and the arrow went right into the back of his head, EXACTLY were I wanted it. I was happy. So I drug hiim ashore, stomped his head and cut it off with my pocket knife and that was that. 2 snakes in about 45 minutes. haha 1 14 incher and 1 37 incher, both cotton-mouths. So hopefully I saved someone a lotta pain, swollen ankle or even death by killing those 2. Ima go back tomorrow and try to kill a few more If I dont see any carp.
