We hunt with walkers and beagles mostly at our club. The hurricane had our kill rate down but my dad killed a nice little buck!

Cool the hurricane 2 years ago really tore our land up in Gaston NC and I dont think its really been the same since, I have seen more big bucks since the storm but a lot of the good places are really hard to get to now. It tore my uncles dogpens up and they ended up catching dogs during hurricane isabel. Gottem all back and then we had our dog named Jack get in a fight with a coyote this year at the end of the year and then before opening day we had to put down the monarch of our kennel and then the 2nd week in Gaston our 1 eyed dog got hit by a car and my grandfather had to put her down. My uncle jokes about it to keep the mood light because everybody loved that dog, she had the sweetest disposition, he says she got "Blind sided" haha it gets everybody relaxed bc I killed my first deer in front of that dog so I miss her everytime I kill one. She would run her tail off. So would buck (the one we put down) but weve got a pup off buck left whos acting just like he did when he was young so were hopin bear will be just as if not better than buck.

It's against the law in Oklahoma. I am sure it would be fun though. For some reason, alotta the folks around here frown upon dog running.

Most people who frown apon it dont understand it. Everybody up here loves it because when summer and archery seasons come in deer vs. car rates go up and wen dog season comes in they go down. Its a proven statistic around here. But most people dont take the time to try to understand it they just dont like it because they think its cheating or other junk like that.

Where I grew up in Florida it was common practice to run deer with dogs. I will agree, most that frown on it have never heard a good run. I love hearing them dogs on a good run, and hearing them get closer and closer, that will surely get the adrenaline pumping. Boy I miss that!

Sure it's fun. But the irresponsible hunters are the ones who ruin it for everyone else. Numerous times I've had dogs run my deer off while on the stand.

A lotta guys don't respect the law or other hunters. They will take their dogs out to STILL HUNT ONLY areas and turn them loose. OR they will turn their dogs loose overnight after dog season is over and then those dogs will chase all the deer off for us hunters in our stands.

I wind up "dog hunting" when I'm trying to hunt deer. Not fun at all.

True there are a lot of irresponsible people out there. But thats the problem with the way the world works. Nobody can control it but its either let everybody get away with murder or punish everybody so either way we (the people who abide by the laws and dont turn out where they arent supposed to) get the raw end of the deal. I know its extremely dificult to punish only the bad people and not the good but it just sucks that thats the way it has to be. You know? I just wish those people would have the common sense to realize that by doing what they are they are ruining the sport we all love to do and if they keep it up their actions could very well lead to its demise.

I was hunting at Tara in MS as year ago in January. Some dink's dogs ran by my stand 2 days in a row messing up my hunt. I know the dogs don't know property lines but the owner shouldn't have been hunting them if he didn't have enough land. I can say that if I had a gun instead of a bow there would have been a few dead dogs. That is just uncalled for. I know the guides down there at Tara were looking for the guys but I don't know if they ever found him or not. I didn't pay that kind of money to have a pack of dogs mess up my hunt. I'm sure under the right conditions it can be enjoyable to some. This just left a bad taste in my mouth.

I have that problem with coonhunters rifleman. They let the dogs go to far and sometimes end up on our property...most of the time they run the river bottoms, which happens to be where I hunt most of the time. So my deer get jumped at night and needless to say don't show in the morning time.

Thats no better. I believe that the owners should be responsible for their dogs. That means tresspassing as well. If the dogs cross the line the owner should be fined. I think things like that would go along way to keep them inline.

Why would you go deer hunting with dogs??? Up here in Pennsylvania we don't do anything like that. Wouldn't they make a lot of noise? That is kind of different to hear of.
