    Default Toms pay a visit!

Although I have taken gobblers not far from where I live, I have never seen a turkey on my property. I see many deer and the country is perfect for turkeys, so it always amazed me why I had never seen any. Well, that all changed this past Sunday, when I looked out the picture window at 6:15 am and ther were 4 toms acrooss the field feeding where the snow had melted. I was able to get this pic just after they crossed my pond and were headed up the ridge. Hopefully 1 or 2 will stick around. This has got me pumped!

I would do some research on what kinda forage WIld Turkeys like to feed on, and maybe plant some small food plots to hold them on your property in the future....

My thoughts exactly. When I purchased my 80 acres 3 years ago I would see an occasional turkey track--but never a turkey. I started planting food plots and the next year I had a few hang around all winter--then the following year I had 3 mature Toms and a group of 7 jakes hang around all spring!

congrats and hope they stick around

What would that be? It would have to be something that can survive the winters here for sure. And deal with pine trees that are acidic...

JimT---i would think about milo---produces a big seed head and is highly tolerant to acidic soil. plant it late spring and forget about it all year. the birds will feed on the seed.

I have thought about planting something this Spring. I planted some Imperial clover at my Dad's place about 5 years ago and it brought the deer in and he also has turkeys. The turkeys didn't seem to be crazy over the clover as much as the deer. It is time to re-plant this Spring, so maybe I'll look into adding some milo at his place and put a little of both at mine.

JimT- The last two gobblers I have taken were in Waterboro which is somewhere between you and me. There seems to be plenty of birds everywhere.

Ryan- Our season doesn't start until the last week of April I believe. Hopefully the snow will be gone by then. It would be cool to hunt in the snow. But I'd rather have just a few inches than the 1 1/2 feet we have now...lol

I was very surprised the picture came out. It was taken about 75-80 yards freehand on 10X zoom and I had to hurry. It was the only pic I coud get. They were moving right along.

Thats cool. Waterboro is between us for sure. I have never scouted over that way, nor have I ever hunted anything over there. It is a good area thouhg. A few guys from work hunt in that area.
